CHAPTER 8 - Mr Moderator

CHAPTER 8

 

The moderator speaks.

Moderator: Greetings friends, colleagues, and participants. I am happy that you get your time attending on this prestigious conference on this very particular felicitous occasion. It gives me a very great pleasure indeed to introduce to you our guest speaker for today. He was an old friend many years back, that was elementary days. Dr. Vincent F. Balacina is known to many of us.

The audiences are murmuring.

Moderator: Dr. Vincent F. Balacina is one of the all time greats in a nuclear physics arena. He is a celebrated nuclear physicist. He earned his B.S. Physics from Wisly University, M.S. Physics from Kyoto University in Japan, and Ph.D. Physics from University of Nebraska – Lincoln in United States of America with distinct honors….

The mayor’s jaw drops.

Moderator: …a world famous with more than 450 research paper publications, 15 patents, and 5 international books. He is the Editor-in-Chief of SCI indexed International Journal of Nuclear Research and Applications (IJNRA) and an editorial member of several international journals in nuclear physics and engineering. This is the testimony indeed to the stature of Dr. Balacina and his prolific output...

The audience’s eyes widen.

Starcy was shocked on what she’d heard. She began searching Dr. Balacina in facebook and press ‘add’ upon seeing his name.

Moderator: …Dr. Balacina was often invited by the academe and industry to deliver a conference talk and research trends about nuclear physics. Currently, he is the chief scientist of Miyami Nuclear Power Plant…

The audience is murmuring.

Moderator: …with 4 friends in facebook.

The moderator seems bitter for Vince still hasn’t added him on facebook.

The audience laughs while some began reading Dr. Balacina’s biography thru Wikipedia. Vince however smiled; he put his mobile phone in silent mode.

Moderator: ehem!

The audience became silent and attentive.

Moderator: …I first known Vince in elementary, which were I think grade 5 or grade 6, while our teacher discusses science…

The moderator inhales a little.

Moderator: …he often interrupts that some science theories written in books are wrong and it needs further correction. We all get laugh in the class and our science teacher always gets mad and had some argument with Vince. Vince most of the time wins the arguments, his low score in quiz shows it…

The science teacher is one of the participants, she’s now 71 and retired teacher. She laughs a little upon hearing it.

Moderator: …I am lucky to be his classmate because he brought some unorthodox views. He graduated as Valedictorian in our elementary class, while I was the Salutatorian...

The moderator seems bitter; some audience noticed it including Czarlize.

Moderator: ...I think that as far as Dr. Balacina is speaking, we are in, for an extremely stimulating talk…

Some audience begins to stands up, including the mayor.

Moderator: …without much further, let me introduce to you, Dr. Vincent F. Balacina!

All audience stands up and is clapping, as if seeing a superstar for the first time.

Vince on the other hand stands up, shakes to some persons around him, he gets up to the stage and shakes hand with the moderator.

Vince had been nodding softly for the extravagant introduction. He never liked being praised.

The moderator hands over him the wireless microphone, sits down, and began to read a paper.
