Su Xiaomi
Falling back into his normal routine had been simple. Every morning Su Xiaomi would awaken, get himself ready and hurry Mei up to school. On some days he would take Mei on his own, others with Chen. In the rarest of occasions, it would be Yan Yan that would take them in his car.
"We like to walk" Mei would complain to Yan Yan. Usually, Xiaomi would have to repeatedly ask Mei to be nice.
It was no secret that Mei did not like Yan Yan.
"How can a boring uncle make uncle Xiaomi happy?" Mei had questioned. It had made Xiaomi laugh though by Yan Yan's expression that day he could tell he was not all that pleased. Even so, every once in a while he would help Xiaomi take Mei to school. Once that was done, Yan Yan would proceed to drive Xiaomi to work.
This brought a smile to Xiaomi's face. In the past, while he loved to stay at home in order to be a good house husband he liked this more. Being independent and a lot more responsible had also helped Xiaomi realize he had indeed missed precious romantic moments like these.
Yan Yan would take him to work, they would stop by his favorite bakery first. It was important to both of them that the other eat breakfast. They would usually enjoy a cup of warm coffee or in Xiaomi's case a cup of warm tea. If Yan Yan was in a hurry that day Xiaomi would simply order to go and send Yan Yan on his way to work. He would simply hand him a small paper bag with freshly baked bread and a cup of coffee. He would walk across the street to work afterward
The best, however, was when Yan Yan had time. They would simply take their time. Sometimes they would talk about work. Other times, about their friends, plans for the week which they would make. There was so much to make up for. But it was the quiet moments that Su Xiaomi would love most. Being in silence, just the two of them in the past had almost felt impossible. Especially with how he was in the past, even until recently when everything had felt so unsteady. Now there was this quiet and comfortable blanket of security and love which had settled over both of them. It was the way Yan Yan looked at him.
It took Su Xiaomi a long time to realize it had been the way he had always been looked at. It had taken him longer to accept the fact that he had been loved. The past which lingered between them pain and love mattered and was helping to build their future again. He felt a hand grab his own and Su Xiaomi simply came back to his reality.
The smell of fresh ground coffee lingered around the bakery. He offered a warm smile to the person that was sitting in front of him and holding his hand. They were having breakfast together for the first time that week. Even when it was already Friday Xiaomi was not upset. He understood Yan Yan was a very busy man. Even so, he would make time to see him every day. They would have lunch together every day. Yan Yan would either pick him up or they would meet at certain restaurants. At night they would talk and though most of the time Yan Yan would simply listen Su Xiaomi was no longer disheartened by it.
In the past, Yan Yan would make quick calls, that sounded angry and would end with annoyance. Not to mention they would be short. Now they could talk both like adults and Xiaomi admitted they had both matured a lot.
"What are you thinking?" Yan Yan questioned Su Xiaomi who simply shook his head, though the smile never left his lips.
"Just... Yan Yan and Su Xiaomi are not mature." His answer caused Yan Yan to smirk in a way that Su Xiaomi was all too familiar with. Even so, his heart fluttered glad that not everything had changed.
"You mature?" There was no longer such a cold tone in Yan Yan's voice though he supposed it was just the way Yan Yan was his eyes expressed more, allowing Xiaomi to see Yan Yan's true feelings.
