Hyun Woo was true to his word, he's really avoiding me. He's even gone as far as, sleeping in the living room. But you know what, I've been so busy studying for exams, that I haven't really had time to care.
"What did you get for number 12?" Sa Rang asks.
"Y= 25." I say, checking my notebook. Sa Rang groans.
"Aish. I got -58." Sa Rang says.
"I can help you with the question." I say.
"Thank you so much." Sa Rang says. I smile. I look over at Mi Na's desk and see her fast asleep. I tap her on her shoulder, but she doesn't respond.
"Oh Mi Na!" I say. She jumps up.
"Five more minutes, eomma." Mi Na says. Sa Rang and I laugh. She glares at us.
"What were you doing last night?" Sa Rang asks. Mi Na rubs her eyes.
"Studying." Mi Na says. The classroom door suddenly opens and a man in his forties walks in holding a stick behind his back, but no one really pays attention to him.
"Everyone sit down!" He yells. People scramble back to their seats, the room is now silent.
"I'm your temporary homeroom teacher, Mr. Jang." The man says. He looks really scary. Everyone stands up and bows.
"Annyeonghaseyo, Seonsaeng-nim." Everyone says. Mr. Jang signals for us to sit down.
"Our first order of business is the seating plan." Mr. Jang says. People groan, causing him to hit his stick against the podium. I flinch.
"Be quiet!" Mr. Jang yells. The classroom is dead quiet now. "As I was saying, I'll be changing the seating plan." I don't want to move, I like my seat.
"Collect your things and stand at the front of the class." Mr. Jang instructs. No one moves. Mr. Jang hits his stick against the podium again. Everyone quickly grabs their stuff and goes to the front of the class. Some people start whispering to each other.
"No talking!" Mr. Jang yells. Wow, he really has anger issues. I notice that he has squares of paper in his hand. He walks around the class and places one on each desk, then he changes the placement of the desks. Instead of having them in a single file, he puts the desks into pairs.
"Go find your name." He instructs. I look at all of the desks and finally find mine at the very back of the class. I take a seat and start getting my books out. Someone sits down next to me. I glance over at them and internally sigh. Of course Hyun Woo is sitting next to me. I look away quickly and focus on arranging my things.
"Those of you sitting at the back have the highest marks and can be trusted to sit at the back. Which means, those of you sitting at the front have the lowest marks and can't be trusted to sit at the back. Those of you sitting in the middle are like your marks." Mr. Jang says.
"Also, the person you're sitting next to is your partner for all activities, including gym class." Mr. Jang says. That means I'm stuck with Hyun Woo all day? Oh, come on!
I thought Mr. Jang had anger issues before, but now I'm sure he does. We're playing basketball in gym today and he keeps screaming at everyone. We haven't even started playing the game yet, all we've been doing is partner drills.
"You! That's not how you receive the ball." Mr. Jang yells. Hyun Woo chest passes the ball to me and I catch it. We don't say anything to each other. Mr. Jang suddenly blows his whistle.
"It seems that you're all still asleep, so you're all running six laps." Mr. Jang says. Everyone groans and he blows his whistle. We start running. Where did Mr. Shin find this guy? At a boot camp? I finish my first lap, when my shoelace unties. I stop in the corner I tie it. Mr. Jang blows his whistle.
"You over there!" He yells. Uh-oh. I look at him.
"Yes, sir?" I ask, as politely as I possibly can.
"Why aren't you running?" He demands. People give me pitiful looks as they run by, including Mi Na and Sa Rang.
"I was tying my shoelace, sir." I say.
"Did I say you could stop?" He asks. My heart is racing.
"No, sir." I say.
"You get to stay back after class and put away all of the equipment." Mr. Jang says.
"Yes, sir." I say. Mr. Jang blows his whistle in my face and then walks away. I sigh and keep running. I really miss Mr. Han.
Gym class is finally over. Everyone looks they're about to collapse any moment now from the exhaustion, good thing we had gym last today. Everyone starts filing out of the gym.
"You there." Mr Jang says. Everyone turns to look at him. He points at Hyun Woo.
"Yes, sir?" Hyun Woo asks, fake smiling.
"Where do you think you're going?" Mr. Jang demands. Hyun Woo nervously scratches the back of his neck.
"I was going back to class." Hyun Woo replies.
"You're staying here and helping her." Mr. Jang says, pointing at me. Hyun Woo looks between Mr. Jang and I.
"Pardon?" Hyun Woo asks. Mr. Jang sighs.
"I already told you before, you're partners for all activities." Mr. Jang says. " So, if you get in trouble, so does your partner." This statement causes everyone to gasp.
"Everyone get out, except for those two." Mr. Jang says and then leaves with the rest of the class. I start collecting the basketballs and putting them back into the cart.
"This is all your fault." Hyun Woo says. I roll my eyes.
"I didn't even do anything wrong, all I did was tie my shoelace." I say. "He never said that if you got in trouble, your partner would too."
"This is not fair." Hyun Woo whines. I sigh.
"Look, I'll just do it by myself." I say, annoyed. I continue collecting the basketballs. The cart gets heavy and I have a hard time pushing it. Hyun Woo suddenly pushes me out of the way and pushes the cart to the equipment room. I start collecting all of the jerseys that are scattered on the floor and put them in the bag that they were in. I take them to the equipment room, where Hyun Woo puts the bag on the shelf. The door suddenly closes behind us, trapping us in the room. Hyun Woo and I look at each other.
"Let us out!" Hyun Woo yells, banging on the door. I bang on the door too.
"This isn't funny!" Hyun Woo says, annoyed. I sigh.
"Which idiot would do this?" I ask.
"Lee Jin Soo." Hyun Woo says the name as if it were a disease. For all purposes, Lee Jin Soo is a disease. Of course he would do something like this.
"I have to get out of here." Hyun Woo says, desperately banging on the door.
"Calm down, I wanna get out too." I say. What's up with him?
"I need to get out of here." He says. He suddenly starts hyperventilating.
"You're claustrophobic." I state. This is not good. I reach for my phone, but realize it's in my backpack because we're not allowed to bring our phones to gym class.
"Just sit down and take deep breaths." I say. I continue to bang on the door until my hands start to ache. Lee Jin Soo did this, knowing that Hyun Woo was claustrophobic. That's really sick and messed up. I realize something, I don't hear Hyun Woo hyperventilating anymore. I turn around and see him slumped against the wall.
"Son Hyun Woo!" I say, shaking him. He doesn't move. What do I do?
