It's moving day. My parents and I are moving back to our house. I'm in Hyun Woo's room packing my stuff.
"Leaving so soon?" Hyun Woo asks. I roll my eyes at him.
"I could do without the sarcasm." I say, zipping my duffle bag.
"Sarcasm is my thing." He says.
"Whatever." I say.
"Jae Eun, are you ready?" Eomma asks.
"Yeah, I'm coming down." I say. Hyun Woo and I go downstairs where my parents and his parents are waiting.
"I can't believe you're leaving." Ms. Oh says.
"Me neither." Eomma says. We say our goodbyes and leave.
Later
I'm at the jail to visit Yong Guk, as always.
"I'm here to see Bang Yong Guk." I say to an officer. He looks at a list and then looks at me.
"You can't see him." The officer says.
"Why not?" I ask, confused.
"He's charged with attempted murder, which means he's high risk." The officer says.
"Why is he charged with attempted murder? He's innocent." I say.
"I'm going to have to ask you to leave, miss." the officer says.
"But he's innocent." I say, almost yelling.
"Look, if you're not going to leave on your own I will have to escort you out." The officer says.
"Whatever." I say. I Ieave. What kind of nonsense is this? I really need to step up my game.
A few hours later
My parents went out, so I'm doing homework in the living room. I can't even concentrate because I keep thinking about this situation. I feel like I've really let Yong Guk down. Now that he's on trail for attempted murder, it's going to be harder to clear his name. I'm shaken out of my thoughts when the doorbell rings. Who could it be at this hour? I look at the security monitor and instantly feel sick. Im Jungwoo stands in front of the door, for some reason I decide to screenshot his face on the monitor. Why is here alone? Isn't he usually with Jin Soo's other goons?
"Can I help you?" I ask.
"Open the door." He demands.
"My parents are home." I lie. Jungwoo suddenly laughs.
"No they're not. I saw them leaving, I'm not stupid." He says. Uh-oh.
"I don't know what you're talking about. Leave before I call the cops." I say.
"Do you know why Yong Guk is on trial for attempted murder?" Jungwoo asks. I sigh.
"Get lost!" I say, annoyed.
"Shownu." Junwoo says.
"What?" I ask, shocked.
"He changed his statement." Jungwoo says. He looks at his watch.
"Well, I'll get going. Goodnight." He says and then leaves. I grab my phone and call Hyun Woo. It rings and rings, but he doesn't answer.
"Why won't you answer?!" I say annoyed. I call him again, still no answer. I decide to call his house.
"Hello?" Ms. Oh says.
"Hi, it's Jae Eun. I was wondering if Hyun Woo is there." I say.
"He is, but why didn't you call him directly?" Ms. Oh asks.
"He's not answering." I say.
"Hyun Woo come here!" Ms. Oh yells. I hear footsteps and shuffling.
"Why aren't you answering Jae Eun's calls?" Ms. Oh questions. I can't really hear Hyun Woo's repsonse.
"She's on the phone." Ms. Oh says.
"What?" Hyun Woo asks.
"Why did you change your statement?" I ask. There's a pause before he answers.
"I don't know what you're talking about." He says. I scoff.
"Im Jungwoo told me." I say.
"Yeah, I changed it, so what?" Hyun Woo asks.
"You didn't even tell me." I say, hurt.
"I don't have to tell you anything. Hyun Woo says, coldly. Why is he acting like this? We're not in public.
"I thought we were in this together." I say.
"You thought wrong. Why would I help you when you threw me away?" Hyun Woo states.
"I didn't throw you away." I say, defensively.
"Whatever. You're on your own." Hyun Woo spits. He hangs up on me. I stand there is shock. Something is definitely up. Just then I hear the door opening, mom and dad must be back.
"I have to go somewhere." I say to them.
"Where are you going at this hour?" Eomma asks.
"I gonna buy fried chicken." I say. They both look at me confused.
"Why don't you just order it?" Appa asks.
"I want some fresh air." I say. I quickly put my shoes.
"Bye!" I say before they can ask more questions. The sun is starting to set, but there's still some sunlight. I hop on my bike and ride down the street. There's something that I've been thinking about a lot, when this is all over, can we really live normal lives? This whole situation is terrible and it's all Lee Jin Soo's fault. Why did he have to kill Park Min Joon? Soon enough, I've arrived at me destination. I park my bike outside the store. I enter and look around.
"Welcome." A girl with short hair in her twenties says.
"Can I have a table for 1." I say. She leads me to table and hands me a menu.
"Let me know when you're ready to order." She says.
"I'll order now." I say. "I'll have 6 piece spicy wings."
"What would you like to drink?" She asks.
"Coke please." I say.
"Your order will be here shortly." She says, smiling. I spot a woman in her fourties. She turns off the neon lights that indicate that the store is open. I guess I'm their last customer. The girl comes back with my coke. I sip it as I wait.
"He must be so scared." The woman says to the girl.
"I know. But how can we help him?" The girl asks.
"6 piece spicy wings." A guy in the back says. The girl brings it to me.
"Enjoy." She says. Then waks away.
"Excuse me." I say. She looks at me.
"Yes?" She says. I take a deep breath.
"Do you know Bang Yong Guk?" I ask. The girl freezes.
"Why?" She asks.
"I'm his girlfriend. Song Jae Eun." I say.
