Zoe's POV
"What took you so long?" Hermione asked as she looked up from a thick book that she was reading.
I sat down, sweat and all, as I looked at her and Zach with such seriousness that I can feel that they were both concerned. I took a deep breath and told them what happened on my encounter with Ginny. I didn't mentioned Death though, I just told them that after I had hit her, the trance was gone.
"Wow... that was too much for just one day." Zach said as he stared at me in awe.
"Where's the diary?" Hermione asked. I then showed her the black diary, and the both of them didn't seem to want to touch it.
I then put the diary in my lap as I took the page that I tore from the Slytherin library. As I unfold it to them, I pointed at the drawing of the snake.
"A Basilisk." Zach muttered, and I nodded.
"It makes sense doesn't it? If it is a monster from the Chamber of Secrets and can be tamed by Salazar Slytherin, then doesn't it mean that the monster is a Basilisk?" I said
"But no one has died yet. It says here that when you look at its eyes you die in an instant." Hermione said, confusion in her eyes.
"But they have been petrified. Maybe they didn't look directly at its eyes! If you observe the people who have been petrified, they have an object or something that would ensure that they wouldn't look directly at it." Zach said in realization.
"Of course, Mrs. Norris was petrified, but there was water everywhere, the cat must've seen it through its reflection on the water... and then Colin Creevey with a camera, and so many more."
The three of us stared at each other in silence as all the information finally sunk in. There is one problem though.
"How does the Basilisk roam around the school without getting seen?" I asked.
"Maybe because if you look at it you'd die?" Zach said, as if I asked the most idiotic question ever. I raised my eyebrow at him and rolled my eyes. Bloody idiot didn't even understood the question.
As if a lightbulb was turned on, Hermione suddenly took the page about the Basilisk and wrote something on it. After writing, she showed it to us... Pipes.
I nodded in understanding. It makes sense. It is a big school, I reckon the pipes here are massive that a 60 ft. snake can fit in them. That makes me comfortable now when I go to the loo, or take a shower. Just great.
"As promised, I'm going to tell you what Harry, Ron and I are planning all this time." Hermione suddenly said. Zach and I leaned closer to her as she looked around to see if anyone were near us, and then told everything.
Turns out they were looking for the Chamber themselves and have been figuring out who the heir of Slytherin was. And now that Hermione knows what kind of beast it is, they're going to stop it. As if that makes sense, when a couple of 12-year olds would stop a humongous beast that may or may not kill them.
"I don't think the three of you have thought this through. Why would you stop a beast that has an absolute chance of killing you? Are you mad?!"
"Harry says he has a strong feeling that you-know-who is the heir of Slytherin--which makes total sense-- and that he has to stop him."
"You three are mad." Zach said as he leaned on his chair and shook his head. I nodded and looked at the watch. As I did so, my eyes might've bulged out of its sockets.
