They didn't know you were behind their cabinets snooping through their stuff yet. You could just sneak around them like some Hitman or James Bond type person. Considering I'm about as klutzy as it gets so that idea probably won't work. You can talk your way out of this one, right Raelynn?!
I quickly, but quietly stuffed the folder back into the safe before standing up behind the counter, plastering a smile on my face. I stood there for a few seconds before Bozer noticed, a smile mirroring my own now on his face.
"Rae- what are you doing here? And how exactly did you get in here?" He tilted his head to the right, staring at me as I stood in their kitchen. I'd be looking at me like that too if my best friend's girlfriend was randomly standing in their kitchen.
Mac finally turned his head, a look of confusion on his face as he too now turned towards me. "Yeah, what are you doing here?"
"I was uh- in here, looking for the jacket that I left here before- a week or so ago. Didn't find it. Anyways, I was on my way out the door when I decided that I wanted to- make cookies when I got home! I remembered I didn't have any sugar at home was so I decided to steal some of yours."
"Don't you have a convenience store right down the street from your place?" Mac smiled, making his way closer towards me.
"Are you kidding me? I'm not paying 3.50 for a bag of sugar. I'll just steal yours!" Without looking, I opened the cabinet behind me and grabbed the first package that my hand had felt. "Welp, I'll be on my way. I'll see you guys later!" Without looking at Bozer or Mac, I started making my way towards the front door, that is before Bozer had cleared his throat behind me.
"Uh- Raelynn, that's a container of baking soda." Shit. Still, without looking at them, I made my way back towards the kitchen cabinet where I set the container of baking soda down and grabbed the bag of sugar that was on the counter.
"What's the rush Raelynn? We haven't seen each other in a week and you're already leaving? Besides, I was hoping we could maybe- restart our anniversary?" Before Mac could reach out and grab my arm, I backed away from him.
"I am definitely into doing exactly just that! Just let me go home, change, and I'll meet you back here!" I didn't say anything else as I darted out the front door, the useless back of sugar in my hand.
I got roughly an hour later, tossing the bag of sugar on the next table I saw. Now I had a useless bag of sugar. But hey, at least I got of that awkward, potentially dangerous and awkward situation. I found myself plopping down into the living room chair, putting my head in my hands.
Now granted, I've never seen secret government papers but what I saw in that safe was not normal. You only see those blacked out papers in the movies and really cheap spy dime store novels. I don't know what they were, but I needed to know. Question was, how the hell was I going to find out more about that those papers. It was obvious no one but Mac was to know what those papers held.
Thinking about this made my stomach curl. God, who the hell was I dating?!? Doing the first thing I could think of, I picked up my phone and texted Mac, telling him that I couldn't make the anniversary date tonight. Yes, I know that I was now lying to him but I needed to find out what the hell was I going to do about this whole situation.
Sent at 4:20 pm. Hey, I can't make it tonight. Got home and well- let's just say I haven't been off the bathroom since. Hopefully, I call you later tonight- If I can actually get out of the bathroom that is.
I had barely set my phone down before Mac had responded.
Don't worry about it, we'll pick up where we left off when you're feeling better ;) Is everything ok though? Did you want me to come over and make some soup or something?
