Christmas has gone and passed and everything has gone back to normal. Except the fact that my boyfriend is a secret government agent! Yeah, that still takes some getting use to. I joked about that to one of my few friends and they laughed in my face before asking if I was mentally ok. Knowing what actually is going on when he disappears puts my mind as ease. I mean sure, he's risking his life multiple times in a month but now I know that he's not like out there murdering people or anything like that.
I was currently at the shop, ready to close out the day. I was actually sitting at my desk, doing a final count of the money I've gotten that day as well as finalizing the sales for today on the computer. Mac and I were going to have a 'romantic night in' so I was closing 30 minutes today, or so he says. I didn't even know anything was going to happen tonight until I got a text from him around lunch time, telling me that 'Not to worry but, I'm using your spare key to get into your apartment. I'm setting up- something, prepare to have the romanticism blown out of your brain ; )'. I was so concerned with that last message I didn't even respond.
As I was filling out the final few columns in the spreadsheet, the bell over my door rang. I watched as a man walked in, dressed in a black trench coat, with shirt and pants to match. He had brown spiked hair, his eyes smiling kindly as he made his way closer towards me. Despite what his appearance may say about him, the rest of him seemed cool and calm, friendly even.
I put a smile on my face as I turned away from my computer, setting my eyes on the man who was now standing in front of me. "Hello, you must be Raelynn. Right?" I tried to not let the confusion outmaneuver it's way onto my face as I now stood up from my desk chair. How did the guy already know my name? You know, there is this thing called Google where funny, you can look up ANYTHING you set your mind to.
"Yep, that's me and this is my wonderful shop." I gestured my hands out, pointing them towards the stock on the shelves. "Is there anything you're looking for in particular? Do you need some suggestions or are you just looking around?" I was going to be honest, I didn't have any people just coming in off the street. If you were in here, you knew what you were looking for or what you wanted.
The man put a smile on his face, a glint appearing in his eyes. "I'm just come in- check some things out. I've heard from a close, a very close friend that you do some good work. I knew that I just had to come in here and check it out for myself. I do have to say it's some-" The man started to trail the tip of his finger along the top of my work desk, walking around me in the process. "Magnificient work."
The more this guy walked around, the more his general vibe began giving me the creeps. "If you don't mind me asking, who was this close friend of yours? Maybe I'll be able to give you a family friend discount?"
The man completely bypassed my question as he now made his way towards the shelving units, weaving his way in between the shelves. "You know- I've heard this area is very safe. So safe in fact that they have double police patrols around this neighborhood. This just makes me think, what would happen if this neighborhood became- unsafe. How safe can you really be packed into this little tiny hole you've built yourself." Chills went down my spine as I found myself inching closer and closer towards my cell phone, which sat on top of my computer desk.
"Well, I should get out of here, got important stuff to do and what not. Have a nice night Raelynn, tell your boyfriend I hope to see him soon." With one last creepy look on his face, the man had exited back the way he came, leaving me standing there.
I didn't waste too much time standing there as I quickly picked my phone up, and dialed 911. There was something off about that man, and I didn't know what it was. My gut feeling told me that something was wrong with this guy. How the hell did he know Mac? And they've met before? Why in GOD'S NAME would Mac even socialize with someone this creepy and weird?
