Jayne's POV
My life seemed to really be falling into place once again. Everything is right and today is the day my mom comes home. I'ts like she had been absent for these years of my life and she was coming back, ready to do the whole mom thing.
We turned off all the lights and closed all the curtains to make it as dark as we could. Everyone was hiding in the shoe closet that was by the door and we had no space. There were four of us, Valerie, Damion, Taylor, and myself. We were elbowing each other and shoving around, mumbling for space. It was uncomfortable until we heard the lock to the front door jiggle. Everyone immediately hushed and waited for her to open the door.
"Kids?" We tumbled out the closet and fell over one another in pain. Taylor hadn't fallen and she stepped over us to stand off to the side.
"Suprise?" Taylor gestured toward us on the floor trying to get up and my mom laughed at us before going off to let some sun in the house.
"Why aren't you kids in school?" We followed her around the house.
"Because you're more important. We called off work to be here." Damion was talking about himself and Taylor.
"Speaking of 'we,' who is she?" Mom pointed over to Taylor and the question was directed toward Damion.
"Well mother, we thought it might've been cool to get you into some mom stuff today so here you go. We've never done the whole meeting the parents thing and this is my girlfriend, Taylor." Taylor reached her hand out and our mother met her halfway.
"How long have you guys been together?"
"Two years." Our mom bulged her eyes out at the thought that she hadn't known for two years.
"Oh, wow. I've really been missing out on you kids' lives..." She looked at the floor and I knew she was upset.
"Yeah but you're here now." Valerie rubbed mom on her back, trying to comfort her, and she looked up.
"You're right. And I've got good news. You guys know I used to be an accountant." We nodded. She was an accountant until six years ago when the drinking got to be too much for her job to handle.
"Well my credentials were still top notch and I begged for my job back. I told them I went to rehab and everything. They let me back in and I start at a lower position but at least I have a job." We were all proud of her.
"Wow mom, I'm really proud of you." I let her know and the doorbell rang, letting us know the pizza man was at the door. That's how the day went. We ate and hung out with mom the whole day until she made us go to bed. It brought her joy. I was glad she was back and the house was happier with her being present again.

When I woke up, it was a Thursday. I got up at six every day so I could get ready for school at eight. Valerie always got up at five so she could shower forever.
I went to take a shower too and everything was just right. The way things have always been and mom knocked on the door.
"Damion has been updating me with the affairs of the house and apparently you get your braces off today?" She was yelling over the noise of the water and I had completely forgotten about that.
"Yeah!"
"Don't go to school then." She left me to shower and get ready and when I was all done, I left down the stairs.
"You ready?" My mom sat with her legs crossed on the couch and her car keys in hand. I nodded and it was time to go.
