Lauren
"Are you sure that you want to do this?" I ask him, looking at him as he drives to her house.
After I had kissed him, we talked for a little while. One of the things that came up was Jess. Something flashed in his eyes, and he said that he wanted for us to have a talk with his sister. About what? I'm not actually sure. He said that he wanted to make a few things clear with Jess, and Baron; he wants me to be there, for some unknown reason.
He knocks on her front door, and I can tell that he already regrets it because he pinches the bridge of his nose, sighing. Baron answers the door, and a scowl quickly appears on his face when his eyes land on Jace. He doesn't seem to be too happy about being in his presence either. Baron sends Jace one last look before smiling at me. "We do love having you over, Lauren, but why are you here with him?"
Jace growls in annoyance, and pushes passed him, walking into the house as if he owns the place. Baron allows me to come in, and closes the door behind me. I follow Jace into the living room, where Jess is, and is just as pleased with him being here as her boyfriend is. "What are you doing here?"
He glares at her. "I came here to make sure that you know a few things." Jess rolls her eyes. I can practically smell the storm that is headed our way. Baron joins her side, as if he's protecting her from her brother. Jace glances at me before looking back at them. "Lauren is my equal now, and I don't give two shīts if we're family, or friends, I am your Boss. We are your Bosses, so I don't want any bullshīt comments, or back talk coming from either of you. Understood?"
I can only stare at him in shock. I'm not sure what I expected him to say, but it definitely wasn't this. I guess I expected more of an apology, on both sides, but they're Monroes. It's rare that they apologize to people, but they never apologize to each other.
"By equal, do you mean...?" Jess asks suspiciously. I cough a laugh at Jace's clear annoyance.
"That's all you got from what I said?" he snaps. How could you not expect that from Jess? She's obsessed with love, and I'm pretty sure that she's been wanting this more than we have.
Jess ignores his question, and looks in between the two of us. Her eyes stick on him after a little while, a smile starting to form. She's probably a little upset that we lied to her, but right now, it looks like she's a lot more happy than upset. She stands, approaching Jace, and takes his face in her hands with a smile. He frowns, and stares at her like she's the craziest person he's ever met. "Are you happy?"
He smiles a little, for a few seconds, but grimaces afterwards. He doesn't like too much physical contact with his family members, especially his sister. He nods, and peels her hands off of him. "It's only been a few hours, but yes, I am happy."
She looks satisfied with his answer, and pulls away, glancing back at Baron. "We were just about to have lunch, would you like to join us?"
I go to agree, but Jace beats me to it by shaking his head quickly, his eyes wide with horror. I look at him with confusion. What's so bad about that? He doesn't hate his sister, and Baron that much, does he? Jess puts her hands back on him, making him growl in annoyance. "No. Fūck no. There's no way that you're going to trick me into going on a double date with you. I don't want to go on one at all, so why would I --- "
"Jace," I snap. He's getting too angry over absolutely nothing.
He glares at me, but his eyes immediately soften. He's trying not to get angry with me, he's breaking his promise. I look at Jess kindly. "Where's your bathroom?"
