Normal.
That's not a word to describe our lives, nor our relationship.
This, though, feels normal. It convinces me that we are a normal couple; happy, safe, in love.
Jace has decided to take the day off to spend time with me, and since the beach is closed for the day, we are walking along the shoreline of the lake. It may not be as warm, and the grass may not be as soft as the sand, but it's just as beautiful as the beach.
My eyes catch the willow on the top of the small hill. My parents used to bring Logan, and I here a lot; either to play in the park near by, or have a picnic under the tree. I didn't tell Jace that this place brings back memories of my family because I knew that he'd refuse to stay. In our city, there's not one thing that beats this beautiful view, so why leave?
I scan across the park, and find the path that leads to the best part. I smile crosses my lips, and I tug Jace toward the gravel. "Follow me."
He frowns, but allows me to drag him behind me. It takes a few minutes of walking uphill to finally get to it, but the view makes it worth it. Once we get to the end, to the left of us, is the view of the lake, and the island of trees across it. To the right of us, you can see three quarters of the city. It's so pretty at night, and all of the street lights, as well as buildings' lights are on. It looks even better when there's snow, the white adding beautifully to its pureness.
"We should go there," Jace suggests, breaking me from my memories. I turn to see what he's looking at --- the forest on the medium sized island.
"I have always wanted to go there, but my --- " I immediately stop myself, and my smile drops a little. My parents never allowed us to go.
Jace frowns, and his eyebrows furrow in confusion. "Your what?" I shake my head, muttering some sad, and pathetic lie. He looks back at the island, and a stares at it for a few seconds before looking back at me. "Let's go now then."
My eyebrows raise. "Now? We don't have a boat though, and you did say that we would only be a couple of hours. We should --- "
"Yes, but we do have money." He says this as he pulls out a handful of money from his black leather wallet. He sends me a reassuring look. "I'll take care of it, I promise."
We walk down the path, and head to the area where all of the boats are located. It doesn't take him very long to find a man in one of the boats. Unfortunately, he seems to be leaving. He nods in acknowledgement at us as we walk up to him. The man looks to be in between Jace's age, and his father's. He's slightly shorter than Jace, has a patch of hair missing, he's got a small beer belly, and dark green eyes.
Jace straightens, looking more serious, and threatening. "How much would you like to take my girlfriend, and I to the island?"
The man scoffs. "You don't gotta 'nough, kid."
Jace's eyes darken. "Try me."
The left side of his lip twitches up. "Five hundred."
I don't know anything about boats, but it doesn't take an expert to know that he's overpricing us. Especially since he's driving us there, and dropping us off. We wouldn't be touching anything that could possibly damage it.
Jace rolls his eyes in annoyance, but hands over five light brown bills.
"So," the man says, "you're swimmin' back?"
My boyfriend growls, and glares at him. The man only raises his eyebrows, waiting for the second half. This pisses him off even more. "List old man, I want to take my girlfriend somewhere nice. If you stop me from doing that, the woman who you jąck off to every night when you watch fūcking pørn will be the last person you'll ever see. If you don't want to stop me, you'll take the money, bring us the island, and back. Now, what's your decision?"
