"The war hasn't begun," Jace starts, "they're going to start killing us off until we attack. That's why we have to stick together --- nobody can go out alone." I hear a few people giggle. I hope that Jace doesn't hear them, but unfortunately, he does. His lips curl downward into a snarl. "Fine. You can go out by yourselves if you want, but you won't last very long. Compared to you, Jess will look like she got twenty paper cuts."
Mrs. Monroe was right. Jace was overexgerrating, Jess only has a few cuts, and bruises. She still looks so much more beautiful than I do.
Jess stands up from between Baron, and I to join her brother's, who's standing at the end of the table, side. She smiles up at him before looking in front of her, at us. "He's right. For a lot of us, this is all we got. I know, for me, I wouldn't have anyone left if I lost all of you. We need to stick together, and fight. I can't lose any of you. That's why we can't trust anyone outside of this room. Who knows if they're spies, or traitors? Now, please listen to my brother, he has gotten us this far, he'll get us to the end --- to victory."
The were very few who were slightly against Jace's new rules at first, but now, everyone seems to be following him.
Jace sends Jess a grateful smile, and a nod of acknowledgement as she returns to her seat. Halfway through the meeting Jess takes my hand, and pulls me out of the room, stating that we're going to the bathroom. I laugh a little as she walks me down the hall, and into the women's washroom. She reaches into her purse, a permanent smile on her face. "What is it?"
"Remember that book I destroyed when I thought that Jace was stealing you from me?" she asks.
My grandmother has always thought that I was an incredible author, and wanted me to make a career out of it. My parents told her that being an author was not an option. Unfortunately, a few months after they got in a fight with her about it, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was a strong woman, but this one thing, she just couldn't beat. So, on my sixteenth birthday, when she was on her death bed, she gave me a journal. She told me to write whatever I wanted to in there. I did. It was mostly about her, and Jace though.
Jess, after I started spending so many hours with Jace, got jealous. So she decided to destroy the physical thing that had my love for Jace in it. I was so angry with her that I didn't speak with her for a long time.
"Well," she says, pulling me out of my thoughts, "the journal that you saw me destroy, it wasn't yours. I hid it a few years, misplaced it, and only found it yesterday."
She pulls it out of her purse, my eyes get wide, and my smile is twice as big as hers. I attack her with a hug, repeating 'thank you' so many times. I pull away after a few seconds, but tense when she says, "I read a few things."
"What did you read?"
She smiles. "I read a few about your grandmother, and Jace, but I never knew that you wrote a few things about me in here."
My cheeks heat up, but they only get hotter when I realize that I'm blushing deeply in front of her. Jess has always been like a sister to me, and even though I thought that no one would read it, I just had to get it out there how much I love her. Now, it has come to bite me in the būtt because I know that she'll never let this go.
She hands it back to me, and I check all of the pages just in case this is a cruel prank, or if she took a few. Fortunately, it's not, and she didn't. Jess smirks. "I was going to give one, or two about Jace to him, but I since I like you a lot more than him, I decided not to."
I chuckle.
I'm glad that I she didn't. There are a few things, and feelings in here that I don't want Jace to know about. Who knows if he had the same amount of affection for me that I had for him at that time? He said that he cared about me, that he liked me, but I felt much more than that. Jace could have been hiding his feelings, but I'm not going to risk my possible embarrassment. Plus, if he found out, he would question me. He would most likely how I fell in love with him, or why I don't have those feelings now. Just like his sister, he has a hard time letting things.
