As soon as Levi Morgan's private jet lands, relief swarms my body. I'm home. He stands once we've stopped moving. "I need to have a word with your boyfriend, then I will be off, all right?"
I nod.
He smiles at me. "You're a sweet girl who didn't deserve what just happened to you."
"None of those girls deserved it," I state.
His smile disappears. "Very true."
All of the girls that were in that room don't deserve the lives that they are forced to live. They have most likely all been sold by now and I hope that Melani has been bought by a man that is better than Lighter. Any man is better than Lighter. As much as I hate to say it, even Finn is better than him.
The stairs of the jet lower to the ground and when we're climbing down the stairs, my eyes land on Jace a couple of hundred metres away. His parents and the rest of his gang are behind him. They don't seem to notice me as they continue to talk amongst themselves. I run down the stairs and towards them; Jace only notices me when I'm about fifty metres away from them. A grin like mine appears on his lips, he takes a few quick, long steps and pulls me into his arms, lifting me off the ground a little.
My noise is filled pleasantly with his scent and my body is surrounded by his warmth. I squeeze him tighter, my brain tricking me to think that if I let him go, he'll disappear. This feels like a dream, I didn't think that I'd be back home again --- that I'd be in his arms again. I have to keep reminding myself that this is real. I have my Jace back. The thoughts make happy and grateful tears spring into my eyes.
"I missed you so much," I murmur against his skin, not wanting to pull away from him for a while.
"Not as much as I missed you," he says.
Unfortunately, our reunion is interrupted by the man I could kill for ruining this moment, Levi Morgan. "As much as I hate tearing you two lovebirds apart, I need to speak with you privately, Monroe."
Jace pulls away slowly, nods at Levi and follows him around the building. I smile at Lena as she hugs me too. I missed her a lot too. For several years, I saw her as my mother. She took care of me when my biological mother refused to, because I was a 'disgrace to my family'. After pulling away, I search for my best friend, but my eyes go back to Lena in disappointment when I don't see Jess --- nor Baron, for that matter.
"Where are Jess and Baron?" I ask her.
Her eyes saden and she glances at Wade. She looks down at her shoes for a couple of seconds and when her eyes meet mine again, there are tears in them. "They're dead."
Dead? No. They can't be dead. If they truly are, the universe is an asshøle. First, they gave us traitors, then they killed my parents, after that they forced me in a hūman trąfficking rīng and finally, after all of those horrible months, they killed my friends --- my best friends. I choke out a sob. You really begin to regret what you did and did not say to a person once they're gone. I wish I had told them how much I loved them.
I am not the type of person who asks the question I ask Lena, but this time, is different. There's so much anger and sadness inside of me. "What about Finn's gang?"
"We killed a few of them, but the only significant one was Cooper," Wade answers for her.
"So, Finn and Logan are still alive? They're still out there?"
He nods.
I know that we're not exactly good people, but what did we do that they didn't? Don't they deserve a fate like ours? Then again, I highly doubt that they are capable of loving someone. I doubt that they even want to try.
