I get on my knees at the edge of his bed, and cross my arms over my chest, waiting for him to come out of the bathroom. As I wait, I go through my head what I'm going to tell him. Of course, all of the words wash away once he walks out of the bathroom only wearing his black boxers.
"Next time when they walk in on us, I'm getting rid of them," Jace states.
I have to stop myself from laughing. After Jace told us that Cooper was indeed a traitor, he excused himself because he needed to go have a shower. Without thinking too much about it, I asked him why he was going to have one when he already had one not too long ago. Everyone pieced it together, including me, when he glared at me. Even though I was mad at him, and still am, I felt bad about it.
Jace looks me up, and down. "Aren't you going to get ready?"
"We need to talk," I state firmly, looking into his eyes.
His lips curl up, and amusement flashes in his eyes. "What about?"
He thinks this is funny.
Yeah, let's see if he still thinks it's funny in a few minutes.
"You got mad at me for not trusting Cooper," I begin. He nods. "Why couldn't you have told me the truth?"
He grins. "You're cute when you're trying to be serious, and interrogate me."
He pinches my side, and I immediately smack his hand. I frown at him. "I'm serious, Jace."
The amusement doesn't leave his face as he tries to join me in bed. I quickly move to the right, and block his path. Something flashes in his eyes, but the humour returns as quickly as it left. He let's out a bark of laughter. "Are you sure that you want to start this with me?"
My shoulders sag a little. He'd rather fight his way onto the bed than have a mature conversation about something that bothered me with me? When he speaks, I listen. I may not like what he has to say, but I listen, why can't he do the same thing for me? The conversation doesn't have to be that long. I just want answers to a few questions, and before he knows it, we'll both be asleep, but clearly he doesn't want to go down the obvious route. No, he wants to go the long way.
I huff out in anger, and straighten myself. "No, I'm not starting this with you, whatever this is, we're doing this my way."
I mentally smile. Jess would be so proud of me if she saw me now.
He cocks his eyebrow. "Your way, huh?" I nod. "What is that --- what is your way?"
I sigh. This is getting extremely frustrating. Why can't we just have a mature conversation between two young adults? I really should have thought about this beforehand. I guess I didn't think he would be so playful, so immature.
Without a word, I grab my sleepwear, climb off of the bed, walk into the bathroom, and close the door behind me. It doesn't take me long to get changed, but I decide to stay in the bathroom a little longer.
"Are you okay, Lauren?" I hear him after a while.
"I'm fine," I tell him.
"You're mad at me."
It's not a question, it's a statement.
I'm glad that he finally noticed.
"I'm more than mad, Jace."
