Two weeks had gone by, every time time Dallas and I were alone we were kissing and laughing and falling in love.
"We have to tell them." I said breaking our kiss. We were walking around town. Dallas looked at the sky and groaned.
"Dally. It's going to be okay." I tried to convince him but he was stubborn. He knew there was no way Ponyboy and Soda would ever except this, and Darry was a whole other story.
"Caffeine, they'll kill me." He said laughing. "They'd probably assume I lured you in and took advantage of ya."
"Well you haven't, you won't even sleep with me." I said tauntingly. Even though I hadn't been drunk since the night we first got together, Dallas still wouldn't sleep with me. He wouldn't tell me why either.
"Believe me baby it's hard for me too." I rolled my eyes at his response. We arrived to the house and found Steve and Soda sitting at the table playing cards.
"Why don't we tell them first. Them and Two-but will be the most understanding out of everyone." He looked at me and sighed and agreed. He knew I was right.
"Guys we have something to tell you." I interrupted there poker game.
"What's up Cafe?" Soda asked referring to my nickname that only he used.
"Dally and I are together." I blurted out. Soda whipped his head around quickly and Steve spit out his beer.
"What!?" They both yelled, Soda a little louder. I stepped in front of Dallas.
"Soda sit down! Listen okay." Soda looked at Dallas and then back down at me. "Soda please." I begged and he listened.
"He's good to me Sodapop, you know I wouldn't be with him if he wasn't." Soda never took his eyes off Dallas.
"Outside." Soda commanded.
"Wait Soda-"
"Outside!" He yelled and Dallas listened. Leaving me and Steve alone in the kitchen.
"Y'all haven't... have y'all?" Steve asked.
"No, believe it or not, Dally won't."
"He won't?" Steve laughed. "Doesn't sound too much like Dally."
"Well, he's different with me. He's kind and soft and real. He cares about me." I looked at Steve and he shook his head in disbelief.
"You're good for him, that's for sure. But that ain't the problem." Steve set the cards down and looked me in the eye. "You May be good for him Kathleen, but he ain't good for you. Just promise me, if he lives through telling Darrel, you'll be careful."
"I promise."
Shortly after our conversation the boys came inside. They both shook hands and grinned at each other and then Soda looked at me.
"How the hell you gonna tell Darry?" He asked in all seriousness. I'm not sure what conversation they had outside, but it sure convinced Soda.
"We aren't sure, but we're going to do it today." I answered and Dally looked at me.
"Today? I ain't trying to die today baby." He shook his head and put his hands in his pockets.
"He isn't going to kill you Dallas."
"Who isn't gonna kill Dallas?" Darry asked walking into the kitchen.
"Hey!" I said going and hugging him. "If it isn't my favorite brother!" I said squeezing him and making him furrow his eyebrows at me.
"Uh, hi?" He laughed and hugged me back.
Dallas took a deep breath and we all looked at him.
"Darrel, can I talk to you?" Dal asked making my heart speed up.
"Yeah sure Dal." They walked to the back yard leaving me in panic.
"There goes my boyfriend. Forever." I said sitting down making Steve laugh.
"This isn't funny he's actually going to die."
"Who's gonna die?" Ponyboy asked walking up behind me.
"Dally." I said giving up on the whole thing.
"What's wrong with Dally?" Ponyboy asked looking at Johnny and Johnny shrugged.
"Oh nothing." I started and walked to the living room. Two-bit had just came in, I was about to kill three birds with one stone. "Nothing except the fact that Dallas is outside explaining to Darry that we're dating." I replied smiling.
"What?!" They all three yelled.
"Hey," Steve hit Sodas shoulder. "That's what we said!"
"Yeah Dally and I are together and he's telling Darry so excuse me while I go call an ambulance." I said walking away.
"Caffeine," Soda said grabbing my arm. "Would you stop. It's going to be fine. If Dallas tells Darry what he told me, you should be okay."
"What did he tell you?" I asked anxiously.
"That's between me and Dal. Just know you're pretty lucky if I'll say." Soda laughed. Ponyboy was still slightly angry. He and Dal were closes out of my brothers so I understood why.
What seemed like an eternity later they both walked in. We were all sitting on the couch when Darry approached us. I looked at him with pleading eyes and he just stared at me and then back at Dallas.
"Here's how this is going to go." Darry started. "You are going to look after her every second that you are together. You will protect her. If she gets hurt, I mean even the slightest, you'll be sorry. And Dally, if YOU hurt my little sister. I will kill you. Do you understand?" He asked sternly.
"Yes." Dallas answered. Even though Darry had just threatened him he didn't seem worried at all. "I wouldn't dream of ever hurting her."
I smiled at him and smiled at Darry. Darry nodded and they had an agreement. I stood up and hugged Darry. "I love you." I said with an exceptional amount of joy in my eyes. He smiled down at me.
"I love you too kiddo." He kissed the top of my head. Right when I felt like I was on top of the world Opal barged though the door. She drug A limp Dani Jane in her arms.
"Help! She isn't breathing!" She screamed and with that we all ran to her brining my all time high, to an all time low.
