The doors opened slowly. I was staring down nervously at my feet. I couldn't breath I was so terrified, then I saw him. I saw Dallas and it all went away. The nerves and butterflies disappeared and I wanted nothing more that to reach my destination.
The priest spoke, but I'm not sure what he said. I was focused on Dallas. How different he looked in a suit. His hair was fixed and he didn't look like the reckless boy I fell in love with. He looked like the man I'd be spending the rest of my life with.
"Do you, Dallas Tucker Winston, take Kathleen Joanne Curtis to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
He smirked at me. "I do." He said in his sexy New York accent I adored.
Then he asked me the same question.
"I do." I whispered, not sure why my voice was so quiet.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride the bride."
"Thank God." Dally said loud enough for the crowd to hear. Everyone laughed as Dally grabbed my face and kissed me. I laughed when we pulled away and shook my head at him.
We turned and smiled at the crowd. I won't forget what I saw. I can't forget. For a split second I saw them. My mother and father stood at the back of the church smiling. I had forgot how much I looked like my mother. She wore the same wide smile she had passed on to me and Sodapop. They were younger than they were when they left this earth. My dad and Darry looked like twins. The only difference was my fathers joe was darker, the same jet black hair Ponyboy had. They were there. In a Golden stream of light. And then they weren't. The light remained, but they weren't there. I turned to my brothers and they looked at me, with the same shocked expression. I saw a tear fall from Sodapop's eye. And I knew they saw them too. I walked down the isle with Dally holding me and I looked back at the stream of light. And I smiled. They saw me. They saw me get married.
After Dally and I exited the church I told him I had to go to the restroom. I walked to the same room I got ready in. I just needed a minute alone. To see if I could find them again.
"Where are you?" I whispered out loud. I heard nothing. I saw nothing. "Please." A tear slipped from my face and I broke into a cry.
Finally I gained control and I just spoke. Could they hear me? Who knows. Do I think they did? Hell Yeah.
"I love you. Both of you, so much. I hope you approve of Dally. Because I am insanely in love with him. I miss you guys. But I know you're here. I know you hear me. I know you see me. Thank you." One last tear slipped from my face. Dallas knocked on the door and then entered slowly. I turned and saw the worry on his face.
"I'm okay Dally. I saw them."
"Who?"
"My parents." He didn't know how to respond. He smiled slightly and came and hugged me. I cling onto him with all I had.
"I love you." He whispered into my ear.
"I love you too Husband."
