I woke up in the middle of the night and stared at the ceiling. "I'm getting married." I whispered to myself.
I got up and crossed the hallway to Darry's room. I slowly opened the door quietly and snuck inside. I laid down beside him in attempt to keep from waking him.
"What's the matter?" He asked tiredly.
"I'm getting married."
He opened his eyes and smiled slightly. "Isn't that a good thing?"
I propped myself up on my elbow. I looked at Darry, he looked so much like our father. Sodapop and I looked like our mother and Ponyboy was a cross between them both. I felt warm tear slip down my cheek.
"Hey," Darry sat up quickly and I did too. "What's the matter Kathleen?"
"I miss mom and dad. I'm getting married. And they won't be here." I could barely breathe as I said these words.
Darry whipped my tears away and pulled me close. I cried into his chest. I must have woken up one of the boys in the process because they both came in.
"Cafe what happened?" Sodapop asked sitting next to me. Ponyboy sat down as well but remained silent.
"I just miss them. Mom and dad. They aren't going to see me get married and I just miss them." Soda grabbed my hand and I saw tears filling his eyes.
"We miss them too." Ponyboy was crying as well. Soon we all were, even Darry.
At times I forget how young we are. Darry and I have raised each other and our brothers. But we're kids. And we cried for our parents that night. We cried because my father wouldn't walk me down the isle. We cried because my mother wouldn't help me pick out my dress. We cried because we missed them more than we knew how to.
"I love y'all." I said pulling them into a group hug. Somehow we all fell asleep in Darry's bed that night. I laid close to me brothers and held them tight. And everything was okay again.
