Megan's POV
Winter is hitting New York full blast and quite early this year I realize as the wind mixed with a snowy chill hit my face and blew back my long brown hair.
I entered the Espresso Bean quickly and shook the bits of snowflakes off my hair and clothes while waiting in line to order and Abbie to show up.
"One mocha latte with two sugars please?" I ask the barista and taking the money out of my trench coat.
"Okay that will be four dollars." I pulled out three and realized I was a dollar short.
I begin to worry and pull out my purse to find some spare change when someone behind me slaps another dollar onto the counter.
I turn to thank whoever it was before noticing how attractive this person was.
He stood before me with jet-black hair and stunning green eyes and shot me a dazzling smile before saying, " Your'e welcome. We should do this again."
"Um-I-um"
"One mocha latte with two sugars."
God bless the barista for stopping me before my face got any redder. I shake my head at the embarrassment of the stuttering. Megan Jenson does NOT stutter. I snatch up my coffee and sink into the closest booth. Behind me I hear someone laughing their head off and when I turn around to tell them to stop I see it's Abbie.
"Y-y- you totally embarrassed yourself in front of him." she says in between laughs before sinking into the booth with me.
My face grows redder and I groan. "Oh god I know."
She wipes a tear off her face and calms down so we can get to work.
Abigail Roberts. Abbie for short is my friend from high school and now partner in fighting crime since our graduation from the police academy, along with Drew Powell.
"Where's Drew?" I ask to change the subject.
"No idea but we need to work on the Devilla case."
I roll my eyes at this. The case wasn't exactly a puzzle.
"Easy. The Gardner Jay murdered Mr. Devilla. Jay and Mrs. Devilla had an affair and when her husband found out, he attempted to fire him and ruin any future jobs, basically ruining the family name. He pulled out the gun, two shots and boom he moves away to try and hide from the law."
Abbie sat there completely stunned.
"And how did you get this theory."
I laughed. "He confessed when we caught him in the next town over and after some.. rough convincing and his fingerprints were absolutely everywhere."
I pulled out a Manila envelope with info for the next case when my phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Megan. You and Abbie need to head to the station."
"Chief, what's wrong?"
Abbie stands up and comes to my side of the booth and tries to listen in.
"Officer Drew Powell has been murdered."
