Megan's POV
The clock sitting on my work desk signals midnight, but my mind is still running in a million directions and the three names written on a ripped napkin was the top of the list.
"Abbie are you awake?" I ask in a groggy voice.
"Unfortunately. I need caffeine. ASAP."
She responds immediately looking up from the tv.
"I absolutely agree." I get up to fix the umpteenth pot of coffee. I lower the glass pot and wondered aloud.
"What do the names, Mark, Marie, and Margaret have in common and how does the bartender know them so personally?"
"Beats me man. Listen we need some shut-eye if we are heading back to the station tomorrow."
We are heading back to our old office to run the tip from the anonymous man, and napkin with the three names through various tests.
That means a reunion with our old rivals
Great.

"Can you drive this time please?" I beg. the lack of sleep is nagging me, and I don't feel like driving down there.
"Sure, if we use your car." she says sheepishly. I turned to her in shock
"It's still in the shop?" She nods.
"Shut up and drive."

We enter the station and to my greatest joy, We are greeted by Joycelyn and Thea.
"I would say it's great to see you but then I'd be lying." Thea sneered.
"Wouldn't be the first time." Abbie retorted
I laugh remembering all the predicaments Thea and Joycelyn had gotten into with the chief and had needed us to cover their lies.
Obviously we didn't help.
"Doesn't matter because with you guys out of the picture we've trained and become the better team." Joycelyn just had to add in.
I look over to Abbie with an amused smile and she grins. In unison we cross our arms and say, "Oh really?"
Thea, originally shocked, sneers once again at us and goes, "Really. Remember how you both BEGGED for that combat room. Thanks to us, the station has it now."
I lean in as close as I dare,
"Bring it."
*******
"Rules?" I stand in a huge deserted combat room, grey floors, grey walls, the works.
Joycelyn smirked, "No cheap shots and no weapons." she looks to Abbie on the last part who throws her hands in the air.
"He provoked me! It was one time!"
I laugh at her defense.
"Whoever gets pinned or calls mercy loses." Thea finishes off.
Abbie is against Thea, and I'm against Joycelyn in a grey ring in the center.
Abbie begins blocking Thea's kick, and uses it as a weakness by grabbing her foot and sweeping her to the ground. Thea, however, recovers quickly and lands two swift blows to Abbie's face, bringing a slight stream of blood from her nose. Abbie mumbles something unintelligible before kneeing her in the gut and taking a right hook to her cheek.
Thea cracks her jaw back into place making a loud snapping noise. They both got back into sparing positions. Thea twists Abbie's arm behind her back. With her free hand Abbie grabs Thea and flips her over her shoulder.
While on the ground Thea grabs Abbie's foot taking her down to. Almost simultaneously they both flipped back into standing position. Abbie threw a punch, but Thea ducked. Thea took a quick left turn now facing Abbie's back. She put Abbie in a sleep hold. I almost thought Abbie was done for when all the sudden Abbie breaks free. She turns quickly and head butts Thea.
Thea lays unconscious, and Abbie puts her hand to her head, "I now know why they only do that in movies."
All the sudden Abbie pushes me into the ring, "Take her down." Were her last words.
I have been a police officer for 5 years, and a private investigator for 5 years. Combat moves were never really my specialty, I was more high on the thrill of everything clicking together and we solve the case. Abbie soared through the class, while I got a B-.
Combat isn't about power. It's all placement. One random punch to the face could at the most cause a broken nose, but a hit to the temple could render the person unconscious. I need the upper hand in the challenge so I think of all her weakest points.
Temple, gut, groin.
Joycelyn has the nerve to smirk at me so I pick all three.
Surprising me, she doesn't crumble, she spits and goes back into her original position. She throws a right hook, but I duck under and kick her in the shin. She cries out And throws her elbow out to connect with my jaw, and I hit the back of her already weakened leg so she falls backwards sprawled out on the mat. She lays there and kicks out but I land the finishing blow to her jaw and she cries out mercy.
"We'll always be the better team. Abbie let's go get coffee." I spat and we leave with bruises and high spirits.
