I saw Chris's sleeping head resting partially on my stomach when I woke up. God he is heavy. How come he is still here? I thought he would leave once I was asleep. I smiled at the sweetness of the moment. I caressed his cheek with my hand. This guy has really started to grow on me. But I know better than to get attached, I'll be the one who'll get hurt. He will never return my feelings when he'll know what I did.
His eyelashes fluttered and I pulled my hand back. He opened his eyes and immediately sat up. "So sorry.. I didn't hurt you did I?"
"It's alright." He let out a sigh. "I think you should go now. Your parents must be waiting for you."
"No they aren't." He answered, way too quickly.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"They are doctors here, just met them last night before they left." His face told me that he wanted to say something else too.
"You told me to trust you, didn't you?" He nodded. "That goes both ways."
He sighed. "They thought that you are my girlfriend, since I wasn't leaving your side even for a second and...they told me that they wanted to meet you, not that they care or anything." He rolled his eyes as he drifted off to the other world. I clicked my fingers in front of his face to bring him back to Earth.
"You don't really think highly of your parents, do you?"
"Not really. They just don't care about anything. They just pretend that whatever they do is for me but they suck."
"Ok, I'm not going to judge. But I want you to know that you're really lucky that you have both of your parents. Half of the children of states don't. You don't know what it is like to when your parents are in the process of getting a divorce."
"Neither do you." He looks away. "Anyways, the nurse told me that you are free to go home today. So when do you want to leave?"
"Now!?" I said, elated to go home.
"Fine. I'll just go and finish the formalities, then we can leave." He said as he got up. I nodded. Then he told me to rest as he went out. I'm not that weak, why is everyone telling me to rest? Huh.
An hour later
Chris put his left hand on my back and other under my knees and lifted me up from the bed. I was shocked at first. "I can walk." I frowned.
"You shouldn't. You're still weak from all that blood loss." He said wittily. I can't deny that. "You know, for a girl as small as you, you're quite heavy Ev." He joked. I smacked his arm.
"This heavy girl saved your ass." I stated.
He groaned. He walked towards his car and placed me on my feet once we were near it. He opened the shotgun door for me and I got in. Annoyed at his gentlemenness. He hopped on the driver's seat soon after.
"Don't do that again." I said in a daring tone.
"Don't lift you up again?" He asked, confused.
"No.. don't behave all gentlemenly whenever around me. I prefer to do my own work."
"Gentlemenly? Is that even a word?"
"Please, no geekness."
"That reminds me, Paige got your history test result. You got an A." He looked shocked while saying that. "How is that even possible?"
I chuckled. "I care about my grades. Got to get a good job when we grow up." What's happening to me? Why do I chuckle and laugh so often nowadays? I was never like this. Well maybe I was, but in last few years, no. Was this even healthy?
"Ok..leave that. News number two, Paige has planned a trip for all of us." My eyes widened. I turned to see if he was serious. He was.
"Where? Why? When?" I asked.
"Has anyone ever told you how annoying you can be at times?" I simply shrugged. "I think we are going to the Hamptons. Why? Even I don't know. Probably to get away from this mess for some time. When? I think tomorrow."
I choked on my own saliva. "Hamptons? Oh God! I'm soo happy. I love Hamptons." I jumped up and down in my seat like a kid. "Sorry." I lowered my head when I felt Chris's eyes on me.
He chuckled. "You should do that more often. You look really cute when you act like a child. Why do you have to be so serious all the time when you should act like someone of your age?"
I knew he wanted to get to know me but I wasn't ready yet. I frowned again. "You shouldn't be bothered by me."
He sighed.
