Chapter 6 - Over?

It was the Principal, Mr.Herlan. Of all the guys that come out to check, today it had to be Mr.Herlan. I suddenly found it hard for me to breathe and my lungs felt heavy. Mr.Herlan scanned the perimeter of the school and any land nearby. i could feel his eyes on Nash and I. His pupils peircing our skin... okay, thats a little too much. But i could feel Mr.H staring at us."Don't move." Nash whispered to me. I kept my face to the sky and held still. The grass seemed to hide us... For a minute. "Who is that? Maddi? Nash?!" Mr. Herlan yelled. "Get into my office, now!" he screeched and shut the door making his way down to the office. I glanced over at Nash with a worried look, but all he did was smile "Dont worry. i'll take the heat" he said. and he winked. That wink could make anyone smile. i took a deep breath and sat up, in unison with Nash, and i forced myself to stand.

we hopped the fence and walked back inside of the school. We found our way to the door leading into mr.Herlan's office. Nash twisted the doorknob and walked in, me following, without a word said between the three of us. Until Mr.Herlan spoke up

" What were you two thinking? Did it occur to you at all that you would face serious physical consequences, including bullying, if other people were to find out about this? What was going through your minds when you decided to go out there and hold hands?!"

The questions hit me hard. You're hella right i didn't know how to answer them, but what i wanted to know is... what's worse: The fact that the PRINCIPAL knows about this and can do anything with it, or the fact that Nash and i could be over.

" Well? i need answers!" retorted Mr.H

Well i have answers." said nash mocking him "look, first of all, i dont know what you mean by 'what were we thinking.' obviously we were not thinking at all if it got us here. it occured to us.." Nash glanced at me " What am i saying.. 'Us' ?This is all clearly my fault, So it occured to ME that we could possibly be killed by doing this. I chose this. I chose to be with Maddi because..." he wrapped his arm around me and kissed me on the cheek. " because i love her. and sir, what was going through my mind when i decided to have Maddi do this was love. respect. no descrimination. not thinking about bullying. jail. and freaking suicide attempts. if you have a problem with us, then might as well tell me now. otherwise, those are my answers" Nash finished off with a bang. I was speechless, and i could tell that Mr.Herlan was too.

"well Mr.Grier i can tell you feel very strongly about this situation. look, you two should be in the worst trouble known to man , but since you seem to have your very explained reasoning, i guess you are free to leave. but i will NOT allow activity like this to take place on any school grounds. Are we clear?" Mr.Herlan asked.

"yes sir" Nash an i both replied. just as i began to stand up, Mr.H questioned me "Wait. Maddi, iv'e heard no answ-" "Stop. Madison does not have to explain anything that she is not responsible for." Nash defended me. he grabbed my hand and and walked out of the door. Not a word said to Mr.H. just like how we walked in.
