A male doctor enters the room, eyes attached to some paperwork pinned onto a clipboard
" Mr. Nash Grier, we have gotten back our-" The doctor pauses and looks up from his paperwork to find the boy - I mean... Nash... grieving deeply, as if being forced to experience a horrible punishment. The doctor clears his throat, and begins to speak again "Mr. Grier, we have gotten our results back, and I'm sorry to say, Maddi has acquired small traces of amnesia."
Nash arose from his position, stood tall and began to speak. "Don't you think I know that?" He announced. "Don't you think I know that I have just lost the love of my life?!" Nash raises his voice at the defenseless doctor. Those few words made me feel guilty, knowing that I could barley even remember this 'Nash' kid's name, yet he was here calling me the love of his life. "She's no different from being gone, now" he says weakly, his strong tone withering . He hangs his head low and lets a tear fall from his eye, off the tip of his nose, and onto the white floor tiles of the hospital room.
"I'll give you some time to... Recoup yourself. I'll deliver the news to her parents." The doctor said as he cracked the door open to leave. "Oh, and I'm sorry about your situation." The doctor said, exiting the room, and seeming to ignore Nash's last remark. Nash slumped back down in his chair and held his face in the palm of his hands. Covering the tears running from his eyes to his chin.
Silence and depression filled the room and it felt painful and uncomfortable. So I broke the silence.
"Hey, Nash?" I speak. His head snaps up, surprised that his name has escaped from my mouth for the first time in a while. His pale, tear-stained face became more visible as he answered me "y-yes, Maddi?" He replies meekly "Come closer." I command. He moves closer and bends over to hear me clearly. I straighten my torso just enough to reach his ear
"I love you."
I whispered softly . He pulled back and stared at me with a look that I thought could only be witnessed in heaven
"I love you too, Maddi. I love you so much." he lets out with a comforting sigh of relief. He comes in close and closes his eyes. I move in as well, and next thing you know, our lips are locked and an essence of elation runs through my body.
Nash breaks the kiss to speak to me "I love you. SO. Much." he says with genuineness in his voice, affection in his eyes, and love in his heart.
But from all this, I have realized something:
When I woke up, I knew I needed someone. I knew I was in love with someone but I didn't know who it was.
I may not entirely remember Nash, but I do remember one thing;
I love him.
I know I love him.
