Victoria's POV

It sounded like the bridge was going to snap under my weight .

My braid was stuck between two cracks in the wood, forcing me to look nowhere but the dangers below.

I was on the edge of screaming my head off when I saw Denis go on his hands and knees and stick his face directly under mine, concentration all over his face.

His face was so close to mine that I felt his warm breath on my neck.

I suddenly realized that everything was going to be okay now that Denis was so close by my side.

I found warmth and comfort and felt like I was home.

My face relaxed, then I saw Denis' face more clearly. He looked nervous, stressed, afraid.

"I cant get this stupid braid out! It's stuck! It's actually stuck!" he was getting strangely frustrated, it was his way of panicking.

"Denis-"

"Why wont it work!"

"Denis-"

"This stupid braid!-"

"DENIS!"

His eyes suddenly fixed on mine as if just noticing my presence.

"Calm down, everything's going to be okay" I whispered soothingly.

His eyes softened and a slow, regretful smile spread across his face.

"sorry, im just ready to get off this dumb bridge already." he apologized.

"Im actually really surprised your more calm than me right now" he laughed nervously.

He started tugging on my braid lightly, staying quiet.

After a few moments of nothing, he started pulling on the braid harder and harder.

He let out a frustrated huff of breath from his nose, then started whispering something to himself.

I started getting worried after endless tugs.

"Denis, do you think you could speed it up a little, please" I barley let out a whisper.

My knees were killing me and my hands were going to slip.

Out of nowhere, Denis got a good grip of my braid and yanked as hard as he could, snapping the elastic that was holding the braid in place.

"OW!" I practically shouted.

I lost my balance, and fell forward, but Denis grabbed both of my shoulders and lifted me up on my feet in a single lift.

Before I could react, Denis swept me off my feet with me in his arms. I gasped and wrapped my arms around his neck.

He ran as fast as he could through the rest of the bridge, "WHAT ARE DOING!" I yelled, shocked.

He didnt answer, just kept pumping his legs and his breath increasing.

My eyes grew wide as I saw everything zoom past me in an interesting blur.

I quickly glanced at Denis, who had an interesting face with determination and concentration all over it.

He came to a sudden stop, causing me slam my face into Denis' chest. He tensed up for a moment, then gently put me down on my feet.

Since the elastic holding my braid was now gone, my hair was thrown over my face clumsily.

I stood in complete shock for the longest time when I felt someones hand brush against my face, sweeping my hair out of the way.

I looked up to see Denis with a little smile. His face was red with exhaustion.

"Did you just... Carry me?" I asked out of breath.

He smirked, "I was done with the stroll over that sh---y bridge" I flinched at his words.

"Why are you so angry? You dont curse, I know that for a fact" I crossed my arms over my chest, waiting for an answer.

He sighed, "Im sorry, this day isn't going so great for me" he ran his fingers through his hair that had gotten ruffled after the run.

"was this day supposed to be important or something?" I asked as we started walking through a nice little neighborhood.

"Well, just a little I guess."  he sighed.

"Why's that?" I was getting more and more curious.

"It's just someones birthday"

"Who's?" I asked stupidly.

He looked at me like I was joking.

I gasped in realization and looked at him in shock.

"Yep, it's June 5th" he spoke.
