Victoria's POV

I stayed behind since I knew it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to try to get over the bridge again in the dark.

I walked Denis to the door and left it unlocked so he could get in without a problem.

I flicked the lights off as I walked through the house before getting upstairs back to Denis' room.

I had all the lights off in the house except for the one in the bedroom so no one would know I were here.

I closed the door behind me and locked it out of habit.

I had grabbed my duffle a while back and when I walked in, I set it on Denis' bed and unzipped it, rummaging through the piles of cloths.

I pulled out my pajamas and set them on the bed neatly. I pulled out my towel and walked to the bathroom to shower.

When I was finished with the shower, I ran back to the room and locked the door again

When I was finished with the shower, I ran back to the room and locked the door again.

I quickly changed, combed my hair, and brushed my teeth, then sat on Denis' bed.

I pulled out my phone for the first time in forever and saw I had a few new messages.

From Mom: I miss you sweetie! Did you make new friends? Who is your roommate? When does class start? Please call as soon as you can!

Clearly I haven't stayed in touch with my mom over the past months.

I was extra surprised that she was not constantly calling, asking if I were alright.

I spoke to soon.

You have 5 missed calls from Mom.

I quickly called my mom to reassure her that I wasn't dead.

"Hey honey! How are you!" She yelled in my ear.

"Hi mom, sorry I couldn't call. I've been busy with Den-" I stopped, she didn't KNOW about Denis yet.

"Uh, I've been busy" I corrected myself.

"I understand. How have you been? Tell me everything" she urged.

"Well, I don't really have a roommate anymore because he was a jerk. Class starts pretty soon, and I have only made a few new friends" I told her honestly.

"Who are your new friends?" She asked after a moment.

"Uh, some guy named Denis, he is the closest one to a friend." I admitted.

"Oh, who is this Denis?" My mom asked. I could hear a smile in her voice.

My mom was always like a sister to me, we told each other everything.

"Oh, he's just a friend" I smiled when I thought about it. Then I drowned at the fact that we actually were just friends.

"And how well do you know this Denis?" She asked.

"Good enough" this topic was making me a little annoying so I fake yawned to act like I was tired.

"Uh, mom. Is it okay if I let you go? I'm getting tired." I lied.

I'm not the type to lie about anything, but I really wanted some alone time.

"Okay, talk to you later" she said.

"Bye mom, love you" I told her and she repeated it as I hung up.

I sat there in silence, thinking when an idea popped into my head.

I pulled up YouTube on my phone and typed in "Denis".

The results showed a channel called Denis. The profile was a blue background with a boys head and a cats head.

I automatically recognized the cat as Sir Meows A Lot and immediately knew this was Denis' channel.

He wasn't lying about the five mill subscribers.

I scrolled through the channel and saw "Granny horror games", "Roblox" and other content.

I clicked a "Try Not To Laugh" challenge video.

I immediately got butterflies in my stomach when I saw Denis on screen.

This was all so crazy! I still couldn't believe that Denis was a YouTuber! And now I'm sitting here, watching him laugh his cute little laugh.

I watched the whole video, laughing and giggling the whole time at his reactions.

I couldn't process that I now had Denis on my phone with me at all times.

When I had asked Denis about his content, I had expected something kinda dumb, but this was ama-

I suddenly heard a thump coming from downstairs.

I froze in fear as the whole house fell quite.

I realized it was probably just Denis coming back up or something, but just to be safe, I texted him and asked if he was in the house.

He answered with a simple "no".

I felt a ping of fear as I saw his response.

I quickly started texting him to please hurry, when my phone went dead mid sentence.

I gulped and looked at my phone, hoping if I stared at it hard enough that it would come back to life.

But nothing happened of course.

I stayed put on the bed and looked around nervously.

After a few moments of silence, I started feeling better.

I grabbed my duffle bag that was at the foot of the bed and unzipped it, pulling out my charger.

I got up and plugged it into an outlet that was by the bed and placed the phone on the desk.

I started walking back to sit on the bed when I heard another noise.

THUMP.

THUMP.

THUMP.

My body went rigid and my heart was beating as fast as a hummingbird flapping their wings.

Someone was coming up the stairs.
