The One to the Better Version of Me

Dear Son,

"I want ice-cream" and I remember how you used to scream. It was so enthralling and heart-melting to watch you like that.

You know, I learnt all your convincing puppy-faced tactics for this day. And I love to watch how pissed it makes you.

I used to tell you tales about how the monster will take away all your teeth but look it ended up stealing mine instead. Sometimes, that feels like revenge of lying to you.

And just like me, you clear your throat in anticipation to your nervousness saying "no ice-cream for you" in a very firm voice.

This life seems so twisted sometimes, it drags you back to square one no matter how far you reach out.

Sometimes, I feel like getting on those swings but my legs are too worn out to carry me. And I remember the one time, you fell from it and thought you'd never be able to swing again.
I was as terrified as you of you losing your legs forever but the strong one that you are, you saved them.

I want to tell you as I approach the ends of this square one, I want you to be strong just like then.

I'll vanish in the crowd and this time I might not be able to reappear, no matter how far your eyes search for. You might not be able to find the same hand to take you back home, I hope you will be able to find your own directions and reach safely.

I'll always look at you up from the sky while your own kid wraps his tiny arms around your leg and pleads you to buy another chocolate ice-cream. I hope you tell him about the monster.

You came to me like a gift and you took me back to the start just about the time when I wanted to so bad.

And now before this another huge monster which is unfightable takes me away, I reciprocate the favor, Welcome to my childhood, I hope I can annoy you with my stupid demands as much as you did.

Love,
Paa

So that's a letter from an old parent to his grown up son. I hope I could do justice to writing from a perspective of a parent.
