It's a windy afternoon here and a weak ray of spring sunlight is shining through the windows. I am sitting at our dining room table, with my old assignments from the construction class spread all over. I've been trying to study them since yesterday afternoon, and I'm having a really difficult time trying to concentrate.
Last Friday, I saw Soleil for the first time since she left. It was a bittersweet reunion because she is leaving again in a week. She got a summer internship with the government of Canada but the position is in Ottawa, so she will be moving there.
Stella was there too and the three of us caught up with each other over pizza. We love to go there every time we meet up because the pizza is cheap (under $10) and you get to customize your own. I got my typical vegetarian and even tried adding pesto sauce on top for the first time.
To my surprise, Soleil gave me my long overdue birthday present - a lovely leathered skinned notebook with a Hemingway quote. I had long assumed she had forgotten about it but never dwelled on the fact too much. (I don't like to dwell on these things as I think it's quite petty and annoying.) However, I suspect Stella had something to do with it because she is closer to Soleil than I am and often texts her.
Anyway, after pizza, we spent the rest of our Friday evening strolling around downtown as none of us wanted to spend more money getting drinks or playing games at the boardgames cafe. It was a rather depressing day, cold and windy, so the downtown streets were deserted after the afternoon rush hour.
Stella brought her Instax camera so we spent some time taking pictures of each other. Both of us have been going through an instant film obsession lately, taking numerous pictures and hanging them up on our walls with decorative clothespins.
After that, we pretty much went our separate ways, making plans to hang out one more time after my last exam to go bowling.
So here I am, two days before that last exam trying and failing to look through as many notes as possible. I am due to go out for dinner with Addie and Blair in two hours and I have a feeling it might be the last time the three of us hung out together (at least not for a long time). That's because Blair is catching a flight home right after our last exam so she will be gone. I still don't know if she will be going to Toronto for graduate school. Maybe I'll find out tonight.
