Dec 31 - Cancun Notes

This morning, we got up at 7 as usual and headed over to the buffet for some breakfast. I got my usual of green juice, a vegetarian omelette, and some fruits. (The place is a vegetarian's heaven)

After breakfast, it was time to leave to catch our flight. We took our shuttle to the airport and got onto our flight.

Right now, I am sitting on the plane as I write. It's a gorgeous day outside and we are flying high above the clouds.  I can see miles in each direction. (Zoe let me have the window seat since she is afraid of airplanes).

Overall, I had such a nice time away from normal life. I feel so much more refreshed and ready to take on the new year!

Below are some notes I took over the course of this week

Mon, Dec 25
- Arrived at 8 pm, ate dinner (at la palapa), went to sleep

Tue, Dec 26
- woke up at 6:30, went outside & took pictures of the sunrise
- Breakfast at 9
- Spend the morning sunbathing & dipping in the ocean
- Lunch on the beach + drinks (mojito & tropical cooler)
- Spent the afternoon swimming in the ocean
- Nap at 5
- Went out to find the spa, couldn't find the spa
- Went to play pool instead
- Saw a live performance of grease the musical at 8:30

Wed, Dec 27
- Got up at 7:20 to catch the sunrise at 7:22
- Breakfast: vegetarian omelette
- Caught the R1 bus to go into cancun's city center
- Bought souvenirs at local shops - bobble head animals, pens, sand in a bottle & other trinkets, and two tropical print dresses
- Came back around 2 for lunch on the beach
- Swam in the ocean at 3
- Came back around 5 to clean up
- Dinner at 6
- Watched magic show Mario at 8:30
- Highlight of the day: the bus driver on the way home played a funky song with no lyrics in a loop. It goes something like 'baaa-dididididi baaa-dididididi' over and over. We couldn't get it out of our heads afterwards!

Thur, Dec 28
- sunrise at 7:23 am, photographed on the beach
- Went for a long walk (2 hours) down the shores, all the way to the tip of the peninsula. Found some cool seashells along the way
- Lunch at 1, went swimming in the ocean after
- Dinner at 6
- Watched a live show at 8:30 on lip sync of popular songs
- Slept at 11 after watching some America's got talent

Fri, Dec 29
- photographed sunrise at 7:23 on the balcony
- Breakfast at 8:30
- Went to feed iguanas at the abandoned hotel, found a large shell on the beach
- Walked to the El Rey ruins at 10:30. Saw old man who offered a guided tour for 1 hour and went on the tour
- Bussed to nearby shopping village to buy more souvenirs, bought Zoe a handmade stuffed lion from a local stand 
- Bussed back, ate lunch at 1:30, napped by the beach
- Swam in the ocean until 5, went back to shower
- Dinner at Los Gallos restaurant at 6:10. Ate fish fillet, seafood ceviche, and cheesecake for dessert. Even had a giant pina colada
- Watched live show at 8:30, it was a Michael Jackson tribute
- Bedtime 11:30 pm
- Highlight of the day: feeding the iguanas, Zoe hit one on the head with a piece of bread. The iguana acted like nothing had happened

Sat, Dec 30
- last full day here, photographed sunrise on the balcony
- Ate breakfast
- Went to the beach at 10 and stayed to nap and read
- Swam in the ocean afterwards
- Ate lunch on the beach
- Went back around 4 to shower and pack
- Watched Harry Potter
- Dinner at Fisherman's until 7:30
- Watched Christmas themed live show at 8:30
- Slept at 11
