Oct 9 - Why is it so hard to keep up on school work?

Last week I didn't have any school assignments due, so I pretty much spent zero time doing homework. Instead, I spent the majority of my time reading articles for research and trying to write some of that funding proposal, also probably some freelance writing here and there.

Then came this past weekend when I told myself to get back on track with homework. It's Canadian Thanksgiving so we get the Monday off as well - an extra long weekend. And guess what I spent it doing? Procrastinating on Saturday and Sunday, and leaving everything for Sunday night and Monday, which is today.

But I did have two nice days away from school and work!

On Saturday morning, the whole family went to the mall because dad and Zoe wanted to buy shoes. I agreed to take them to my favourite shoe store (DSW) where you can get brand name shoes at discounted prices. So off we went.

When we got home, I took a long nap and told myself I'd get some work done in the evening. But that's all easier said than done. I ended up reading a book in bed for the rest of the night instead. The book was Roald Dahl's autobiography which I bought for Zoe for her birthday. (The parts about Roald Dahl working as a fighter pilot during WWII was so exciting that I couldn't stop reading!)

I don't know why I have an obsession with children's author's lives. I read Beverly Cleary's autobiography a few months ago and felt really inspired. Maybe I subconsciously want to be a children's author one day (hahaha)!

On Sunday, I had promised to go to the zoo with my friend, Cindy, from the research group. She also invited two of her house mates, two guys, to come along. The four of us ended up wondering around in the cold for most of the afternoon before getting some hot drinks in a cafe to sit down and chat. It was a nice way to spend the day and the guys were pretty interesting to talk to, so I was pretty happy.

I originally thought I'd finally get some time to do homework on Sunday night. But nope. Turns out, the whole family was invited to have Thanksgiving dinner at one of our good friend and neighbour's house. Mom had to work the night shift so dad, Zoe and I went instead.

Dad, being the party guy that he still is, didn't want to leave long after dinner had been served. He had gotten pretty drunk too. And whenever he gets drunk, he becomes more chatty than he already is and kept telling random stories that nobody wants to listen to. Around 12 pm, I had to drag him home before he made a fool of himself. (So much for being the responsible adult here).

Finally, we arrive at today. Monday. I realized I was in deep trouble. Three assignments due (one tomorrow, one on Thursday and one on Friday), one lab report due tomorrow, research proposal needs work, quiz tomorrow. I wanted to give up, but then realized I had survived worse before. So I can do it again.

As I am writing this now, it is technically Tuesday morning. I managed to finish most of the assignments, with the exception of one question which I have no idea how to do. (Probably will ask Addie or the prof tomorrow). I feel a little accomplished, but kind of wish I did more work.

Okay, maybe not. That was an awesome weekend. XD
