Tsundere!Danny AU

I had known Dan Avidan since the third grade. He was a quiet kid, kept mostly to himself, but I was determined to make him my friend.

We had just started senior year of high school. Dan and I were friends, albeit not super close.  But we sat together at lunch and chit chatted here and there. I had been working hard to push past his cold exterior to try to get to know the real him. I could see in his eyes that he was a kind soul, but couldn't figure out why he was so cold. Maybe he had a hard home life or something like that. I couldn't place it.

He and I were walking down the hallway, quiet, but side-by-side.

"Hey, Dan?" I said. He glanced down at me through his tress of curls.

"Hm?"

"Can we talk for a minute? Maybe go sit in the courtyard?" I bit my lip. He gave a slight nod, and we headed outside. We sat on one of the many benches littered across the courtyard, and I tucked my legs under myself criss-cross style. Dan crossed his legs and took a sip of his tea.

"What's on your mind, kid?" He quipped. I rolled my eyes playfully at the nickname. Ever since he found out I was a year younger than him, he'd been calling me that.

"So, we've known each other for awhile. But I don't really know much about you, Dan. We're friends, but we don't hang out outside of school. I'm just wondering if it's me, or if you're okay, or..." I trailed off, looking at the ground. I heard him clear his throat and shift.

"I guess I'm just... a secluded guy. I prefer to stay home; I don't really like getting personal. But, I do trust you, (Y/N). More than anyone else. So, we can hang out more. Or whatever," He let out a sharp breath.

I looked up at him to find him pink-cheeked. I flashed him a broad smile and earned his famous one back.

"Deal. We're going to the mall tonight. Meet me here at the end of the day," I sprang to my feet, waved and dashed off to my next class before he could protest.

2:30 pm

I was anxiously glancing at everyone that walked past me. Dan's last class ends at 2:15 and he still wasn't here yet. I finally spotted his vast curly hair a few minutes later. I waved him over. He looked hesitant but willing.

"So, the mall?" He raised an eyebrow at me. I nodded and held out my hand for him. Dan looked at me and then my hand before slowly taking it. I tugged him towards my car and nodded for him to climb into the passenger's seat. He does so with some difficulty because of his lanky stature. I glance at him and smile a little. He gives me a small smile in return. I can see he's nervous. I reached over and patted his knee.

"Don't worry. If you get overwhelmed, we can leave," I say gently. He gave me a slight nod.

"Thank you," Dan murmured. I smiled again and started my car before driving out of the school parking lot. Dan was looking out the window the whole drive, humming gently to the music floating out of the speakers.

We arrive at the mall about twenty minutes later, and I click the car off.

"If you really don't wanna do this, we don't have to," I say as I glance over at Dan.

"I want to. I need to come out of my shell," He tosses me a smile and climbs out of the car. I smile a little to myself as I duck out of the car and lead Dan inside. He glances around, his mouth slightly agape as he took in his surroundings.

"Have you really never been here before?" I asked with a giggle. Dan shook his head causing a few of his curls to fall across his face. I smile.

"I'm glad to accompany you on your first time," I smirk and Dan flushes, letting out a small chuckle.

"I'm glad too," He says softly. I grin broadly and head towards the food court. Dan ambles along beside me, continuing to look around and take in his surroundings.

"C'mon, let's grab some dinner. Chinese sound okay?"

Dan nods slightly and scoots closer to me as we wind through the crowds.

We ordered and found seats in the corner of the food court. We'd been eating for a few minutes before Dan cleared his throat and I glanced up at him.

"So. I uh. I want to tell you something. I need to, actually."

I furrowed my brows. "Of course, you know you can tell me anything, Danny."

He takes a shaky breath. "I've had a crush on you since the third grade. I have wanted to tell you forever. But, I'm so fucking shy. As you know. But you've made me feel so much braver. Especially today," He was rambling now, knotting his hands tightly together as he spoke. My cheeks turned bright pink.

"Seriously?" I said, my voice cracking a little. He nods slowly.

"I'm sorry for springing that on you but I absolutely had to get it off my chest," He whispers, hanging his head a bit.

"Danny, look at me."

He slowly lifts his head to look at me.

"How have you not seen that I feel the same, you asshole?" I chuckle weakly. Dan flushes red.

"Don't fuck with me, (Y/N)."

"Why would I ever?"

Dan shoots up from his seat, bending across the table and latching his lips to mine.

This could be the begining of sometihng amazing.
