Bad pick-up lines (Dan Avidan)

I slumped into the first open booth I could find in my favorite coffee shop as the sky changed from a dark grey to pink. My usual barista, Danny, sauntered over; always way too cheerful for barely six am.

"Morning, gorgeous!" he chirped. I cringed a little.

"For one, it's too early to be so happy. Two, I'm far from that," I rolled my eyes a little. All Dan did was giggle, pulling out his pen and notepad to take my order.

"What'll you have today, my ray of sunshine?"

I glare playfully up at the poofy mess.

"Caramel Macchiato."

We say this in synch. Because I get the same thing every day. I grit my teeth a little. Dan laughs.

"Oh, lighten up, babe," he coos, and suddenly I'm blushing.

"Go get my coffee, asshat," I grumble. He laughs again, ruffles my hair and heads off to make my drink.

He comes back shortly as I'm typing away on my laptop. He slides me my drink and rushes off. The usual. He always disappears after he gives me my drink because he writes stupid pick up lines on my cup.

'Are you religious? Because you're the answer to all my prayers...'

I giggle, my cheeks turning a light pink. I leisurely sip the drink, wondering why he won't just ask me out already.

About 15 minutes later, Dan sits down across from me. Before I can say anything, he slips me a piece of paper before getting back up and leaving again. I carefully open the note. A number is messily scrawled across the paper with another line.

'Can I tie your shoes? Because I can't have you falling for anyone else.'
