Chapter Eleven

I give him my number also and he leaves. I walk up to the front steps and Chase asks, "So, what did you and Jake do?" I roll my eyes and snap, "Nothing and besides, maybe you should go keep "talking" to Crystal. Being that I'm just your back-up girl." Chase stands and looks me straight in the eyes. I don't back down. Neither does he. We stay like that until Chase finally looks away. I push past him and go straight to the kitchen. Veronica is sitting at the island with her cell in her hands.

She glances up and catches sight of me and says, "Lisa where have you been?! Chase and I have been so worried, I tried to call you but the calls wouldn't go through. Are you ok though? Your friend Rose kinda filled me in on what happened. Chase had no right to do that with Crystal. I'm so sorry I was on the phone, I didn't know you needed me until I heard someone scream, and a door slam. Lisa? Do you want me to get you anything?" I can feel the salty tears coming down my face. I try to wipe them away but more just kept coming. I shake my head and answer Veronica's questions, "No I'm not ok Veronica. Chase gave me this beautiful ring Friday and he told me that I'm the one he wants in his life and now I catch him making out with Crystal? That's messed up Veronica. I love him. Now he thinks that I did something with a guy from school? All I did was ask him for a ride." I turn to get a glass of water. Veronica starts to make grilled cheese. While she waits to flip the toast she says, "I know someone who would like to meet you Lisa. Not right now but someone who I'd think you'd want right now." I put my glass down but then I take another sip, and I look at her. Pain, love, and hope is all I see, "Who is it?" She glances at me and states, "Your father." I drop the glass and it shatters all over the floor. I jump back and shout, "crap!! I'm so sorry Veronica!!" She puts the pan aside and grabs a broom. We don't say anything while she cleans up the broken glass. Once she's done she starts the stove again and finished cooking. She hands me a plate and she gets one herself. We eat. Finally she gets through half her sandwich and says, "I shouldn't have told you. I've been talking to him for a few months making sure I know it's truly him. We've met a few times. The first time we met I showed him a picture of us and he started crying saying how much you've grown and that you look just like your mother. He has a new wife and three kids now but he still loves you the most. He told me to give you his number in case whenever you two want to meet. It's up to you Lisa." I let it sink in. My dad is real and wants to meet me. I couldn't believe it. I still have a dad. I hug Veronica and mumble, "Are you sure it's him? I would love to meet him Veronica. Thank you for trying to find him for me." She smiles and says, "Your welcome." I finish eating then I asked Veronica my dad's number. Once I got that, I got Dakota and we went into my room. I heard Chases voice by my door wondering what I was doing. He walked in and sat on my bed while I was on the couch. I ignored him. No way I was gonna talk to him. He said what he said and I said what I said. He hurt me badly. I type in my dad's number and I hit the call button. I stand and wait while the phone rings. On the third ring someone picks up the phone on the other line. A guy answers.

"hecko?"

I breath a shaky breath. I answer before I even think what I was gonna say.

"Uh.. Hi. Is this Mr. Winters?"

Silence. Nothing at all. I wait before he finally responds.

"Yes this is, may I ask who wants to know?"

Now I was the one who didn't answer. Only way I know my dad, is to tell him about me.

"Umm..Lisa Winters your daughter."

"Lisa? Is it truly you? Oh my God..."

"Yeah umm it's me."

"Can we meet somewhere? Only if you want to."

"Do you wanna have your uh.. Family come over for dinner? So we can meet everyone?"

"We'd love that, what time?"
