Kick's POV

I sat in my room, deep in thought.

Half of my thoughts were of regret.

The other half was filled with determination.

Crutchie was fast asleep across the room. I sighed and opened the window. I climbed out and up the fire escape to Jack's 'penthouse'. Once I got to the top, I peered over the ladder and saw Jack sitting in a corner, half asleep.

"I'll leave him alone for now." I thought. I placed my foot on the second-to-last step of the ladder, but my prosthetic slipped and I lost my footing. I yelped and clung on to the ladder.

"Jesus, Kicks! You wanna bust your other leg, too?!" Jack shouted, running over to me. He grabbed my arm and pulled me up onto the floor and sat me down.

"No. I want to go down." I said, a bit dazed. I sat down next to Jack and sighed. "I'm scared." He sat up and became attentive. "I'm thinking about what I said today, and what if it all backfires?"

I stood up and started pacing. "What if Driver gets hurt? What if the girls get hurt? What if Spot gets hurt? What if the boys get hurt? What if you get hurt? What if Crutchie gets hurt?" I started to get panicked. "What if I fall and my prosthetic comes undone and I can't run and get caught? What if everyone here gets hurt and it's my fault and I get taken to the Refuge and I never come out?" I started hyperventilating.

Jack came over to me and wrapped me in a warm hug.

"Kicks. Listen to me." Jack said. I looked down, still panicking and breathing hard. He lifted my chin so that I'd look up at him. "Things might go as planned. Things might not. But your brother, Spot, Driver, the boys and I will be right next to you. We're gonna help you out tomorrow. No one's gonna get caught, I promise." he whispered. I smiled and nodded. I let go of the hug and walked back downstairs.

"See you in the morning, Jack. We've got a big day ahead of us." I said, starting to climb down. He waved and smiled.
