Kicks' POV

I woke up to a terrible headache. I groaned as I reached down to pick up my prosthetic, but when I got a hold of it, I fell onto the cold ground.
"Kicks!" Crutchie said as he came over to me. "What're you doing?" I moaned, not able to reply. Crutchie sat me up and felt my forehead. "You're sick!" He immediately scooped me up and put me back in bed.
"No..." I started. "I gotta go to work..." I started to sit up, but flopped over again. But this time, Crutchie caught me.
"You are staying in bed, Katie." He said firmly. He tucked me back into bed and left the room for a few minutes. He came back with a damp cloth, a cup of water, and a half loaf of bread. He sat down and put the cloth on my head and placed the bread and water next to the bed. "The bread should probably last for a while. If not, I have some food hidden by my bed." He said. I nodded. He got up again and began to head out the door.
"Crutchie." I called. He came back in. "Thank you." I smiled. He smiled back at me.
"Anything for you, Katie. Now try and get some rest. Love you."
"Love you too, brother." I replied. I laid down and fell back asleep.

A Few Hours Later

I woke up to someone gently shaking my shoulder. I rubbed my eyes and saw Les and his mother standing next to my bed.
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked, pleasantly surprised.
"We we're running some errands for Davey, and we ran into your brother." Les' mom explained.
"He told us you were sick, so we brought you some stuff to help you feel better." Less held up up a little bag and I smiled.
"You guys didn't need to do that!" I explained.
"We wanted to." Les' mom replied. "We also got a letter from Davey and there's one for you and the boys." She handed me an envelope and I opened it. I pulled out a letter and a photo. The letter read,
Dear Newsies,
I hope you are all safe and doing well. I arrived in Oregon safe and sound. Class started the day after that. My class is small. There are only ten kids and me. The picture in the envelope is my class. They are all very nice. I am planning on coming home once the classes end for the summer. I can't wait to see you again!
Yours,
Davey.

I smiled and put the letter back in the envelope.
"Thank you for coming over." I said. They both smiled.
"Anything for you, dear. We consider the newsies a part of our family." Les' mother smiled. She reached into the little bag and pulled out a small bottle. "Take this. It'll help you." I smiled and drank a bit of the bittersweet medicine. I took a breath and yawned.
"You should go back to sleep." Les said. He tucked me in and gave me a hug. "Feel better soon." He smiled. I smiled back at him and closed my eyes, feeling better.
