Ishita leaned against the wall of the shower hoping she could stop shaking. "What was I thinking ?" What she was thinking was that she wanted to run out of the bathroom and drag Raman back to bed. "Like that will solve our problems" There were still things that had to be dealt with, questions that she needed to ask. Ishita knew the answers to those questions were going to be hard to hear and s*x, especially really good s*x, would make things more difficult.
Raman tapped on the bathroom door "Jaan, breakfast is here." For a second he wasn't sure Ishita was going to answer. He was grateful they were on the second floor so there was no way she could escape out the window and anyway her clothes were on his side of the door "I'll be out shortly" Ishita called back. By the time Ishita emerged Raman had laid breakfast out on the table under the window. "We can enjoy the view this way" he said pulling out a chair for her.
Once they had sat down and started eating Raman decided to address the elephant in the room. "Look I will start by saying I'm sorry for moving too fast for you. But to be honest, I won't apologize for wanting to make love to you."
"I don't want you to" Ishita answered, "We're in an awkward situation here. I feel like we're stuck half way between the past and the future and today the past happened to be very close."
Raman thought about what she said. "I'd like to take the next step towards the future. We need to start talking about everything that's happened."
Ishita knew the ball was in her court. "There are some questions I need to ask you. And I'll need you to be honest with me. I don't want you to tell me what you think I want to hear. I'm not sure I can even ask all of the questions I have right now but I need to start"
"I promise I'll be completely honest. " Raman said "what's the first question ?"
Ishita poured more tea for both of them before starting. "Well, the first question is rather easy. What happened to Ashok and that blasted promotional contract ?"
Raman was prepared for a much tougher question. "The answer is surprisingly easy. Ashok has lost the contract to me, the client has withdrawn the contract with him as his machinations came to light"
Ishita was stunned. "Lost?"
"Yes," Raman said taking a final bite of his breakfast before pushing the plate away "
„Who cares about Ashok's losing," Raman said
„Yes you are right" Then Ishita took a deep breath and headed towards the tougher question. "Where is Shagun ? Because I will say this up front if she is still in New Delhi I'm not coming back. I won't spend the rest of my life having to run into her everywhere I turn."
"She's not in Delhi any longer." Raman answered. "Ashok has left her after their joint fraud with the promotional contract came out" "She left and I have no idea where she went and could care less. " Raman hoped Ishita wouldn't ask about the last time he'd seen Shagun . It had been an unpleasant conversation and he wasn't quite sure how Ishita would react to it.
