They had gone thru a couple of quaint local shops before stopping in a small antique store. Ishita was immediately drawn to the jewelry display. Raman looked around a little before coming back to see what Ishita had found. He noticed she was looking thru a tray of bracelets. With each one, after admiring it she would look at the price tag, shake her head and put the bracelet back down. Raman approached and slipped his arm around Ishita 's waist. "See anything you like ?"
Ishita sighed "I like all of them, but unfortunately my budget doesn't. It's practically groaning at the idea I might buy one." She handed the tray back to the clerk and wandered farther down the display cases.

Raman reached for the tray before the clerk could put it back and looked at the tags. None of the bracelets were that expensive. Then he realized the situation Ishita had been living with for the last months. He knew she had taken some money out of their savings when she left, but it really hadn't been a very large sum. Raman had waited for the credit card bills to arrive but none had. Ishita had mentioned the job she had gotten but Raman suddenly realized it couldn't be paying very much. It explained why she was still living with Paatti . He had assumed before that was because she hadn't made a final decision about their marriage. Now he realized she probably couldn't afford an apartment as least not a decent one.

Raman had always tried to take care of Ishita and make sure she had everything she wanted. He'd groaned and complained sometimes about the credit card bills ,but looking back he realized she really hadn't spent that much for a woman in her position as a GEO wife. Raman called Ishita back before she went too far down the aisle. "Ishita , come back and pick one of these out. Let me buy it for you."
"Raman you don't have to do that." Ishita had hated admitting that money was tight right now. She was managing ,but things like antique bracelets were luxuries she just couldn't afford. In the 1 year with Robert, Ishita had never worried a lot about money. Roman had groaned a little about her love of shopping but he'd never denied her anything. In the last months she realized just how much she had taken that generosity for granted.

"I want to, Jaan. Consider it a lovely reminder of this trip. You can show it to our grandkids someday and tell them the story of how Dadi got lost and Dadu had to come and find her. And then you can tell them how Dadu bought this for you in a little Madras village."

Ishita laughed. "Ok, I'll pick one. But you do realize to have the grandkids we have to have the kid first."
Raman leaned over and whispered in her ear so the clerk couldn't hear. "I forgot to tell you I'm working on a plan to fix that." He laughed when Ishita blushed .
