The night of the trial by tale, Vanessa was top student. The problem? So was Andrew. Every one whispered how she was the one who should be making out with him in the library, or whatever Callis did.
How was Callis the one with a prince? How was that fair! Vanessa was the one with the blonde hair and blue eyes, the one who put on makeup in the mornings, and slathered herself in face masks and body washes and cucumbers! Just like her mother taught her, and Sophie always had a boy hanging around her. Maybe even a harem.
"Your a princess V, snap out of it" she whispered as she walked in the hallway, in the middle of the night. Not a hallway, a balcony type bridge that linked the hall apartment like dorms inside the hugely tall Purity tower.
"Snap out of what?" Vanessa stopped, startled. She placed a hand on her chest, boys weren't allowed here.
She glanced down at the almost see-through robe she was wearing. It was short, just long enough to cover what needed to be covered. It was blue, and fringed with thick lace.
"None of your business" she replied, she kept walking, she had a pair of fuzzy slippers with soles like rocks that slapped across the marble floors like drums. She wished she had put on the fuzzy socks instead.
"I'm pretty sure it is my business" the voice had an accent. Vanessa hurried more, and put out a glowing blue finger, it was baby blue and she loved it, sadly it wasn't the brightest.
She hurried a little more, before she saw a shadow run across another bridge, she took a step back and gasped.
"Who are you?" her voice snapped, fear clinging to her words.
"Wouldn't you to like to know" The shadow stopped, it was at the end of the balcony.
A cloud passed, and moonlight shown down on a beautiful chocolate boy. Vanessa opened her mouth in awe. She hadn't seen him around the school..
The boy laughed, he moved closer, Vanessa backed up. Her best friend (and younger sister?) Was in pain with a broken wrist, she was going to try to talk to her. This wasn't a time for boys!
But maybe it was, she hadn't gotten to finish talking to Callis the other day. Sophie had sent her a crystal ball message, a large box had arrived at her dorm with her name on it. Her room mate Qini had given it to her and left to go study. Inside had been a rosy pink crystal ball encrusted with blue jewels. Along with it was a note from her mother telling her to close her eyes say a spell and hold her hands on the ball. She did, and what she saw was her ruling a kingdom with a boy besides her. That boy? Andrew. Ever since She'd been trying to talk to him, tell him what she saw. HE was HER true love!
Her face went pink.
"Hey princess, up here" She glanced up. It was the boy again, and he was right in front of her.
"What?" She hissed, he grabbed one of her hands, she pulled a little but he shook his head and wrapped her in his arms. Vanessa yelped before she was flying through the air with a scream. She heard a light turn on and a girl let out a shriek, "KIDNAPPING!" A dozen other girls opened their own doors and windows.
They broke the ceiling flying miles a minute, Vanessa closed her eyes and whispered to herself to not look down over and over.
"Calm down, it'll be okay!" The boy told her, looking at her face. Vanessa nodded her head, eyes still closed and unsure what to say.
Vee opened one eye to find the boy had oak colored eyes and freckles on mocha skin, black curly hair and a grin that could steal the moon and would still be forgiven. She closed the eye again hoping it was a dream.
They landed on a black marble balcony that led into Sophie's office and bedroom. "Sophie" Had been etched into stone above the open french door way, inside was the blonde draped over an extremely fancy fur chaise that fell to the ground in fuzzyness.
On the chaise was Sophie in a white nightgown.
"Thank you, Jamie you're dismissed for now," Sophie nodded, the boy let go of Vanessa and ran out. He was an evil student?
Vanessa blinked at her mom, she stood up and waved her hands the nightgown lost the night and became a cream gown that flowed to the floor, losing its sleeves along the way. Vanessa knew the spell from beautification.
"So, you'll be in the trial tomorrow?" Sophie folded her arms and raised a perfectly plucked eyebrow, slowly sitting down on the chaise.
"Y-yea" Vanessa hiccuped, unsure what to do. She stood in the doorway shaking from the wind, moving her arms up and down to try to gain warmth. Sophie noticed her daughters temperature, and snapped her fingers, the doors slamming and the fireplace lighting up in an instant.
"Well I need a favor" Sophie smiled her cheshire smile, stroking her couch. She snapped her other hand, a chair gliding from the corner to under Vanessa's legs causing her to fall into it with a cushioned oof.
Vanessa nodded with a little fear. "Perfect!" Sophie purred clapping her hands and standing back up, she glided over to a serving cart and picked up a small jewelry box before moving back to her daughter, who was extremely confused. Sophie sat down on her knees to match Vanessa's height and handed her the blue box. Vanessa smiled and opened it, inside was a small silver ball with intricate spells scrolled all over. A black jewel sat inside that you could see through a clear crystal cover on the top. The ball was on a beautiful silver chain, Vanessa let out a gasp. "I-it's beautiful"
"Yes, well it's also powerful" Sophie picked it up and held it over her daughters neck with a smile, she latched it behind Vanessa and whispered a spell to keep it locked.
"What does it do?" Vanessa was unsure as she watched her mother stand back up and sit back down on the chaise.
"JAMES! You'll see at the trial, darling," Sophie called, before turning her head back to Vanessa and waving her hands, Vanessa was suddenly wearing a pair of fuzzy pajama pants and a cotton shirt with a picture of Sophie on it. "I don't want to see you in ridiculous clothes like that" Vanessa gave a blank nod, everything moved so fast and quick she didn't really know what was happening.
"JAMESON." Sophie shouted, annoyed. The boy opened the door with a thud and a growl walking back over to Vanessa and scooping her in his arms in a bridal hold, they quickly exited and flew back to the school for good, falling back inside the hole of glass, everyone has quieted down, It was silent and dark once more when Jamie led Vanessa back to her dorm.
"Why'd you change? You looked great before.." He smirked, Vanessa gave him a glare.
"Princesses don't like villains"
"What about beautiful ones?"
"Still a no"
"What if I could make it a yes?"
"No"
"I bet I could"
"I doubt it" Vanessa crossed her arms before opening the door with a spell. And entering, she saw Qini asleep on the couch, books all over. Vanessa quickly turned to the window to watch as Jamie left and fix the window with a glowing green finger.
Tomorrow was the trial.
