"So do we have any idea where we are in correlation to the main island?" I asked as I looked at the makeshift compass.
"Well we sailed in roughly a straight line so if we can turn the ship so that it's facing the altar island and sail in that direction we should end up somewhere around the main island." Wickerbottom said as she flipped through her book on sailing.
"I do hope you're correct." I said as I rubbed my temple.
"Adjusting course." WX-78 spouted out as he turned the wheel.
With a huge swaying motion the boat turned in the opposite direction, lurching to the side so much with the rapid swing I feared it would flip.
"I'll go change everyone's bandages. You go make something edible for the injured to eat." Wickerbottom said as she turned to leave but she stopped and added "And make sure it's not toxic."
"Yes yes..." I responded as I waved away her instructions. I didn't need to make the food, Warly could do that. A back eye won't keep him from making dishes he's memorized.
Instead of making food I just delegated the task to Warly and set about making some spears to replace all the ones we'd broken in the fight with the shadow creatures.
As I finished the last spear I decided to check and see if Willow or Wigfrid needed anything, but I stopped when I saw a rather peculiar sight in the distance.
I quickly ran to the side of the ship and untied one of the ropes used for climbing up and down the ship's side. Once I had a good grip on the rope I took a few steps back before jumping over the side.
I flew down the waters surface, an experience akin to when I slid down the ice spike after killing the Deerclops, and I had to kick the side of the ship to avoid swinging around. I took a moment to judge the distance between the water and the rope before deciding I could probably climb back up. Then I jumped into the water.
As the ballphin sped towards the boat I floated in the water, preparing to haul an unconscious person up a rope. Once it was close enough I wrapped my arm around the injured surfer and used my other arm to paddle to where the ship had moved in the waves. To my annoyance the rope was just out of my reach.
"Damn!" I breathed as I struggled to keep up with the ship.
I was about to start yelling to WX-78 but then I heard an anger inducing snarky voice yell from the ship "Odd time for a swim, eh pal?"
I looked up and saw Maxwell staring down at me while he leaned on the railing of the ship.
"Come help me you prick!" I yelled as the waves began pushing the boat a bit faster.
"Is that any way to ask for help?"
"Help me or be burned alive by Willow!"
"Oh fine... Could at least give me some witty banter..." he said as he jumped over the railing with a rope in hand.
"Well Maxwell, if nothing else, your long lanky arms are useful." I said as I grabbed his extended and locked my legs around the other rope.
"Bare in mind I'm responsible for most of the good things in your life."
"Yes, and even more responsible for most of the bad things." I grunted as I heaved Walani over the railing.
"I'd still wager it's better than living in some secluded house in the woods conducting experiments."
"Well, you're not wrong there..." I mumbled as a few flashes of mutilated animals and vaguely human shapes spread across metal tables went through my mind.
