Chapter 19: The Lead

Stephen's P.O.V

Ryder one of our best trackers had picked something up with all the crazy weather that has gone down lately. He found a trail someone by some woods about a 5 hours drive from the pack house. It was still part of our land but almost into the Cresent Moon territory. I would have shifted and ran there but there wasn't enough woods so we had to go by car. This is the first lead we've had since she's gone and i don't know if I'm more relived than angry.

I kept to myself in the car. Ryder was in the passenger seat, Jace and Mason in the back. I still don like him at but he was almost as worried as me. Almost. I was losing my mind chunk by chunk. It took alot of control to not speed and move cars out of the freeway, hell i would have shifted then and there but Ryder kept me at bay which is off since Jace is my second in command. He has been on the edge these couple of months. 

We're almost there i just want to jump out of the car but i cant i have to keep calm and just pray she's okay. I was kind of afaraid of finding her, how'd she react i told her i didnt want her and i made THAT perfectly clear. What if she runs to Mason when we save her that would just destroy  me. I don't think  i could take it, no I just cant  take it. We came to some woods and turn off the engine and took a deep breath i had to be strong if it came to any of those situation i had chosen this path an di will have to endure it. 

Ryder got out of the passger seat and the rest followed in suit.

"The pack said they smelt unfamiliar scents here about a week ago but since it wasn't actual territory they didn't think much of it." He was monotone knowing that a week was too long they probably moved on.

"It's our only lead maybe it leads somewhere else and perhaps their still here. I want a one mile radius of guard just in-case. Half of the trackers shall protect the perimeter and half with me the rest except Jace and Ryder will help." They all gave a single nod and i walked forward, either to find disappointment or more anger with disappointment.

We quietly walked into the woods they were somewhat thinned but not enough where it was easy to walk. We were about a good half mile in when i heard steps and i smelt her it was faint but i smelt it. I ran about 10 meters. And there she was running and stumbling over her own feet. She looked paler and too skinny  i could already see the the dark bruises over her body. I growled they will pay what they have done to her. She started yelling names.

"Jace, Mason, Marisa HELP!" She cried

"Nicole!" I cried my wold howled at the sound of her voice and pushed me forward. Some of the pack members had shifted ready to defend in case of attack. Then i saw Skylar. It figures she would be behind this. She walked towards unafraid a BIG mistake> Just Wait until she finds what im going to  do to her. I kept my eyes on Nikcole and then back to her then i saw what she was up to. She had a shot gun. It took me a second too long to figure out what she was going to do.

"SKYLAR NO!" I yelled to the top of my lungs. Two shots were fired before she was tackled by two  wolves. Nikcole fell to the ground bleeding already and too fast. I ran faster i knelt down by her side she was so small and fragile in my arms. Her head was bleeding and i saw the rock she must of hit it on. She lifted her shaking hand to my face and i held it there with my own.

I yelled orders to bring the car around to check if anyone else was inside the house and to knock out Skylar i would deal with her later. I looked back at Nikcole, she looked pained she wanted to talk but it was difficult.

"Nikcole stay with me! Don't leave me, I love you. You cant leave me." I mumbled this was all my fault all of it and i knew it. She smiled one last time before she closed her eyes. I listened for her heartbeat it was slow but it was there she probably passed out because of the hit to the head. I lifted her gently and put her in the car.

It's 4 days and i feel like I'm really going mad.No im past it i am mad. I haven't slept at all even thought she's safe from harm but i know she isn't completely there. The pack doctor said she was in a mild coma. Like i wasn't  bad enough she had four cracked ribs and she was almost paralyzed from the shots. She got stitches from the cut from her head and she was getting feed multiple vitamins since she was weak and hadn't been fed well.

Well she was in intensive care unit. It wasn't below the house. Ive been waiting for the pack doctor to tell me how she's doing but its been hours and nothing. Marisa and Kari have tried to get me to go home sleep. I keep refusing so they brought me food that my worried mother keeps sending. I was pacing in front of the ICU where she was and Marisa walked up to me and hugged me. I was shocked at first but i hugged my little sister back. She pulled back and she gave me a sympathetic smile.

"She'll be fine Stephen." It looked like she was trying to convince me. I smiled at her half hearted she's seen that she's fine for now. I looked at  Kari leaning on a corner arms crossed. She hasn't spoken to me since Nikcole's date with Mason. I growled at the thought. so it's been awhile.

"Kari I-" I start she lifted her hand and closed her eyes.

"Save it Stephen. Your lucky Marisa knows she's going to be fine but i still don't forgive you for what you've done. I should let you borrow my gift sometimes see how you affect those around you."  She shook her head and walked off. I didn't need to have her gift i could feel the anger rolling off in waves from her body.

The doctor came walking towards us and we spared him the trip and ran towards him.

"Is she fine?" Marissa asks

The doctor sighs and looks at us.
