"And you do realize it's a crime to steal from your master, no matter if he or she doesn't give you enough?" I asked as I looked down upon the slave sitting on a chair below me. He kept his eyes downcast but I could sense a furious fire burning within. I could always tell with the guilty. They made it easy.
"Yes," he grounded out and I had to hide my smirk of pride. I always had a way of drawing out the truth from the guilty but of course, I had to thank the gods for my wisdom. It didn't come easily to this world anymore.
"Well then. Because you admitted it, I won't be drawing out your sentence but you will suffer the consequences. You shall spend a good three months under house arrest- meaning you shall be watched over while doing your daily works and all shall be done within your master's house. Fair enough?" I asked. He glared at me but I remained impassive. It was a judge's job to remain so as to not show any doubts or weakness.
"Yes ma'am," he finally replied and I hit my mallet on the tabletop before sending a nod at the guards. They took the accused from the stands and then I addressed the court.
"The case is finished. You all may go home now," I told them and stood up, allowing the thin dress covering me to flutter to the ground. I spun on my heels and exited the room, feeling accomplished yet again.
Being a judge within Egypt wasn't easy. There was always something to go over or someone to judge. Everyone assumed they were right and demanded an apology without even allowing me to delve into why they were accused. Suffice to say, they were always angry when they realized they couldn't fight me. Not my problem.
"A wonderful trial Athena," a fellow judge, who apparently was new since I've never seen him before, commented and I simply eyed him. He had golden hair, which was quite unusual for someone who lived in Egypt but his skin was dark and shiny and well muscled. He had light green eyes that almost appeared like a yellow color and he had a chiseled chin.
He wore something akin to the pharaoh; a white skirt with a golden sash tied at the waist, golden necklaces around his neck, a black wig in his hand, black khol accenting his eyes, and silver sandals on his feet.
"Thank you. And you are?" I asked, slowly brushing passed him but he caught up to me and gave me a boyish smile.
"That is for me to know and you to find out," he replied with a wink and I rolled my eyes.
He was a child in the form of a man. He was a boy who was handed everything on a silver platter, to a certain extent, but also carried responsibilities. He knew what the world was made out of more than he let on and to fool others, he acted oblivious. But of course, he couldn't fool me. I was trained to pick up the smallest of signs.
His eyes told me he had a mission. His body language screamed 'don't care' but there was a slight tension to it that showed me he was forcing himself to be nonchalant. His smile could fool anyone into thinking he was as bright as the sun but there was a certain sadness to it that made me wonder what the actual mission consisted of since it wasn't something happy for him.
"Are you done checking me out?" he teased and contrary to popular beliefs for girls, I didn't blush, fluster, or look away. Instead I spoke my mind.
"You're sad and on a mission. I suggest you don't waste anymore time on me and complete what it is you have to do. Prolonging it will only make it more difficult later on," I told him and then his true nature appeared. His smile disappeared and the mask he placed fell, exposing him fully.
He now looked like an aged man with wise eyes and his body appeared to hunch over as if he were exhausted. His lips were pressed in a thin line as he looked at me. He then gave a small smile.
"You're quick. I'll give you that. I can see great things coming from you Athena," he told me and I frowned slightly.
"What are you talking about?" I asked and he stepped forward and took my hand in his. My eyes widened as the world spun. I ended up in a bright white room where the man now appeared to be glowing like a god.
His hair began to look like bright fire and his eyes shone like the sun's rays. He seemed to grow even younger and sturdier and to finish off, a bright bow and arrow appeared on his self. My mouth dropped open a little but I quickly collected myself and found myself bowing before him.
Even I knew he was someone to respect and give myself to. He was no man. He was a god. A god that might as well smite everything and everyone around him if he so chose to.
"Stand, Athena. For you yourself shall become what I am," he told me and I stood and cocked my head to the side.
"What do you mean? Who are you?" I asked and he smiled warmly at me.
"I am the God of the Sun. And I am here to bring you to the Mount. You will know everything once the time is right. But you have been chosen for your wisdom and your understanding of us and the world. Remember this though and take heed- Wisdom is a rare and beautiful thing but it can be dangerous if taken advantage of. Always be mindful and patient," he concluded and I could only nod in confusion before he stepped forward and placed a finger on my forehead. Nothing made sense right now but with gods, I don't think they were supposed to. So I allowed myself to succumb into the dark because it was the easiest way to solve this problem.

Tada! Tell me what you thought of this chapter!
I know it's a bit shorter than the others but Athena isn't one to beat around the bush. She's quick and tells it as it is, never prolonging on a topic or trying to find a way around it if there's no way so I felt this was a good pace for her mortal story. I hope you agree too!
Don't forget to vote and comment to show your support! I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
