For once in my life, I didn't have anything to worry about. It was summer, I finished the year strong with my grades, my friends weren't fighting anymore, and I was in a relationship. Too bad that even after all this, I was quite bored with the relationship. The truth is, I liked adventure and thrills. But it was always the same with Soda, get up and hang out at his house or visit him at his job.

Our paths never would have crossed if it weren't for Two-bit. He introduced me to him, but he had left out the detail that Soda was in a relationship with a girl named Sandy.

Walking home with my boyfriend Sodapop Curtis was quite the treat because then it was less likely for a soc to come and bother me, and it has happened before.  We had been dating for a three months but we had been friends for many months now. I didn't know that Soda liked me, but I found out when his brother, Ponyboy told me. The rest of the gang also said it was true, but I didn't believe them until Soda walked in back from work with Steve and they confronted him. I remember how awkward that was, he just stood there all blushing until Steve pushed him into me. Then the gang kept chanting  at us to make it official. I guess I owed them one, because it has all worked out since.

"Are you sure I can't stay at your Vals? Chances are Ponyboy and Darry will just be fighting and i can't stand it," he asked, and I couldn't blame him. Soda suffered too much, his parents were deceased, his brothers didn't get along to well, and he had to drop out of school just to support them all. Sometimes I try to help, but Soda refuses it. On our first dates, I offered to pay but Soda wouldn't let me. Then I told him I wouldn't go on dates with him if he didn't let me pay, and I explained he needed that money for his brothers instead.   It probably hurt his ego a lot, because we don't really go on dates anymore.

"Soda my parents would flip out if I brought you even in a 10 foot radius of our house. Just try to ignore Ponyboy and Darry, their fights usually blow over by morning.

"Let me guess, your parents hate me because I'm a greaser?" He questioned, and it wasn't entirely false. I'm sure they would be more accepting if he was a rich soc.  But I didn't have the heart to tell him that.

"No I think my parents hate you because your a boy," I teased him while grabbing his hand. All I wanted was for Soda to be happy with his life. Sodapop never realized how great of a person he was. He had to be the most sweetest, friendliest, and most understanding person I know. No wonder everyone around town loved him.

"Well it looks like your parents are here" Soda said when we got to my house, and both of my parents cars are parked in the driveway.

"I better go in, before they come out and see me." I said. My parents didn't like me hanging out with the gang so much, let alone dating one of them. Soda gave me a hug and then he kissed my check.

"Goodnight lovely" He said, then I just flat out kissed him, even though there was a slight chance the whole neighborhood could be watching. He kissed back, then broke away. "I think I better go now, Valerie."

"Okay, I will walk to the DX tomorrow with you" Soda laughs, " It will be my pleasure." Soda starts walking to his house, and I opened the door to my parents right in the living room.

"Who the hell where you talking to?" my dad asked, and I kind of just stood there for a while.

"One of my friends, sodapop. He lives down the street."

"He doesnt look like one of your friends to me" My mom said. I looked at her confused. What was she talking about? " They look more than friends. Especially the way you guys were kissing on the porch!" My dad looked kinda angry now. I didn't really know what to say. I was just mad that they heard and saw me and soda together.

"What's the problem?" I shot back at all of them. "He's my boyfriend, I don't understand why you guys have to mad about everything."

"Well were just trying to protect you. He looks like a nice boy and all." my mom said calmly.

"He looks more like a player to me." My dad said. I couldn't understand why they were being so hard on me. I know I didn't tell them, but thats just because I wanted to avoid all of this. My parents were the worst, and they knew a lot of violence happened down here and they always tried to keep me away from it. Ironic that I spent all my time with greasers.

"For your information, Soda isn't like that at all." I said quietly, then I went to my bedroom. My parents had been so difficult these past few years. The teenage years had been very hard because they never let me do anything. Sometimes I felt like a prisoner in my own home. I guess it was the curse of the only child, their eyes traveling around the city watching my every move. Someday it would be nice to get far away from Tulsa.
