Soda didn't seem to notice that I left. He was busy with more customers. On the way back, I decided to go to my own house instead of the Curtis's. I walked on the sidewalk looking down thinking why was I Sodapop Curtis's girlfriend. There wasn't anything special about me anyways. But Soda, damn. He was hot, attractive, sweet, and caring. I know tons of girls that wish they were me. But I just didn't feel like Soda cared about me as much as I did for him. Everyone says Sodapop understands everyone, but I was confident he didn't understand me. He doesn't know how much it hurts me for him to have girls putting there arm around him and them asking for his number and him just giving it to them like he's single and ready to mingle.
The gang always warned me about walking alone, but usually socs don't touch girls unless they are greaser girls. As long as you went out during daylight and I would try to walk where there was a lot of people so it wasn't so dangerous. I wouldn't call myself tough though, just a lot of independence for always being alone. My parents had me staying home alone since I was 6.
I was about at my house and obviously my parents weren't home, they were at work. It was summer, so I was at the house a lot while my parents were at work. I went up to the door step and realized the door was locked. "Shit." I muttered under my breath. I told them I wouldn't be home until Soda's shift was over, which was in a few hours and then my parents would be home. Nothing would happen to me if I just stood in our backyard, but it was so hot outside and I was tired and thirsty.
After an hour of resting on the back porch and dying of boredom, by now it had to be at least 95 degrees and I figured I could go to the Curtis house, either Ponyboy or somebody at least would be there. Usually I tried not to crash at their house because I felt bad that the rest of the guys took advantage and practically lived there, because I didn't want to be another bother to Darry. Darry always said that he didn't mind, so I guess sitting there for a few hours while I was locked out of my house was fine.
After starting the walk back, it wasn't too long when I heard something behind me.
"Oh God" I said and turned around to the sound of footsteps that were getting closer and closer. It was Dallas.
"Hey girl," He said, startling me.
"What do you want?" I said, giving him a look. He put his arms around my neck and then said
"Your boyfriends looking for you, where the hell have you been? You got nerve just walking around here by yourself." None of the guys approved of me walking by myself, even after I assured them I was always pretty safe.
I rolled my eyes, "Well I wanted to come back home, Soda didn't even notice I left. " Dally eyes shot up, and he gave me a little smirk.
"Is someone jealous?" Dally then tripped on a branch and fell onto the sidewalk. I burst out laughing, "Real Smooth Dally!" Dallas got up and then said, "You still haven't answered my question smart one."
"Do I really need to answer that? I'm not jealous at all! It's just being at the DX while Soda is always working, it's very boring." It was a good enough answer.
"Well, that's his fucking job! What do you expect?" Dallas said highly annoyed.
"Why do you care so much okay? The last time I checked, Dallas doesn't care about anybody but himself." Dally looked really mad now, but then I realized what he was going to do. He came close to me super quickly but I backed away. Dallas gave me a hard stare and then turned around.
"Dallas what was that for?" He looked back and his eyes were still narrowed. But then his face had turned into a goofy grin and I was confused as to what his problem was.
"I was just trying to mess with you, you were scared to death man! And I hate when people call me out on stuff, c'mon let's just go to the Curtis' place and forget about it. " He turned away and started walking fast down the sidewalk. Hopefully, I would never get on his bad side.
"That wasn't very funny, why do you have to get all up in my face like that?" I scolded him.
"You are so fucking uptight, how does Soda even go out with a person as prissy as you." I rolled my eyes at his comment.
What the hell did he want? He was always so bitter that I only dealt with his problematic personality for the sake of Soda. Sometimes he was very good to talk to, and other times he was annoying as fuck. The walk back was very quiet, Dally didn't even turn to look at me.
