The next morning, I woke up super early. Unfortunately, I hadn't been keeping up with my laundry so the only thing that I could wear was my light blue dress. It was a few inches too short, but my parents would never let me go out in pants. The only time I got to wear pants was when I was cleaning the house or outside in the garden.

My mom was thinking I was going to a friend's house, but I was really going to see Soda and walk with him to the DX. Expecting Darry to answer the door when I knocked, I was dumbfounded when Steve answered the door, and all he did was shut the door in my face. Steve and I didn't get along too well, he third wheeled with us a lot because he was single. Personally, I didn't mind, but he did.

"Open up!" I knocked on the door, while Soda opened it. His hair was dripping wet and his breakfast was in his hand.

"Good morning beautiful," He said, and I walked into the house. Johnny and Dallas were missing.

"Are you almost done getting ready?" I inquired.

"Nope, and because you're here he is going to take an extra half hour," Steve said while Two-bit laughed.

"Hey Pony," I greeted him. He was eating breakfast quietly. I hadn't even noticed him when I walked in.

"Hey Valerie, how's it going?" Pony said. Pony and I were actually really close. He was like the younger brother I never had. He never really talked to me at first, but then I donated him a bunch of old books that I never bothered to read, and he warmed up to me. I really admired his love for Soda. He adored him and he talked about him a lot. Ponyboy said that Soda was understanding and he listened. Sometimes I felt otherwise. Soda never seemed to know where I was coming from.

"Pretty good, except im having to wait for Soda to get all dolled up!" I rolled my eyes at him. This boy was sitting in front of the TV with Two. I snapped my fingers at him to hurry him.

"Hey okay I'm going! You came to early Val," Soda whined. We had too many petty arguments.

"So what about that birthday party?" Darry asked me as he came out of the kitchen. Pony and I had the same birthday, July 22nd. The rest of the gang of planning this huge extravaganza because they thought I had money to pay for this double birthday bash. Two-Bit wanted an adult bounce house if that was even a thing. Steve wanted water balloons, which I already had a pool if you wanted to get wet.

"Haven't asked my parents, but they will say yes," I lied. My parents wouldn't be too happy having seven teenage boys being extremely reckless and obnoxious in my back yard.

"Hey Val about that party, is the cake going to be chocolate?" Steve asked. It bothered him that I didn't eat chocolate and that I was a vanilla cake kind of person.

"I will make it a marble, just for you." My aunt was the queen of baking cakes, so it would be easy for her to make me one.

Soda looks at me, "Hey I'm ready, let's go!" He was already out the door before I had a chance to say something else. Steve bolted behind him.

"I better go, or they will leave without me," I said, saying goodbye to Pony, Two, and Darry. I was about to open the door and it flung open. It was just Dallas.

"Jesus Dallas, why are you such in a hurry?" My heart rate got up because of that.

"Whoa, calm down will ya?" He said. I gave him a little smile and Dallas was cool and all, but he was a hardcore bother. He didn't like that I wasn't a greaser girl, and he took it as an insult that Soda and I were dating. Apparently, girls that were middle or soc just looked at him as "the hood that had been in jail too many times."

I saw Soda and Steve and I ran to catch up with them.

"Where were you"? Steve asked.

"Sorry Dallas kinda stopped me," I told them. Soda looked at me and then let out a laugh.

"I'm surprised he let you leave. Good thing you did, Dally is just too dangerous for a non-greaser like you," He responded sarcastically. Soda put his arm around me and then gave me a little kiss on the cheek. The gang always liked to make fun of me cause I wasn't a greaser.

" Hey, whoa whoa, you know it annoys the shit out of me when your all coupley like that!" Steve said, and I just laughed.

"Someone is alone and jealous!" Soda joked. Steve broke up with his girlfriend a few weeks ago, and I didn't really know if he was over her or not.

When we got there, it was just us three. Then people started trickling in, and I sat by myself while Steve and Soda did their thing.

But then a fancy car full of Soc girls came. Hopefully, they were just there to get some gas and not hit on Soda. But that's usually what when down at the Dx, or at least what Dally was telling me. Soda knew they made me uncomfortable, so he gave me a kiss and put his arm around me and Steve went up to them instead. I was surprised, Soda didn't ever seem to mind the girls around him, even if he was dating me.

"Not going to talk to them today?" I asked. Sometimes I could be problematic.

"Oh Val, its all part of the job. Maybe after work, we can go over to your house?" Soda asked.

"I would like to, but my parents are home." I protested. My parents would flip if I brought a boy home.

"Oh come on Valerie, we always hang out at my house." Soda insisted. It was true, but his house was always a party and I was always bored as hell at mine. Those were the cons of being an only child.

"That's because there is never a dull moment at the Curtis house." I giggled. That was a true fact when all the gang was over.

"Your right about th-" Soda was cut off when he turned around and saw a car drove down at the DX, it was another car of girls. My heart sank a little. I also felt bad knowing I didn't feel secure enough in my relationship with Soda and these cars of girls bothered me.

"I'll be back once I finish, ok?" Soda left to go tend to the "customers". I decided to leave too.
