Chapter 39
Time seemed to go slower and she realised that with every second passing. An hour felt like an eternity and Sirius would walk through the door at any minute with a smile on his face that could be wiped off with the words she was going to say.
Mila was the most wonderful little girl in the world, but she'd have the attention she needed with Benji and Arden. It took Adria an hour to stop screaming at the two, spouting words of anger at the very thought - but then she calmed down and she thought about it.
She thought about the responsibility that came with Mila.
They would see her any time they wanted to, and Benji was her uncle as much as she was her aunt - and with Jude in their care...it was a reasonable idea. It was a good idea.
Blair and Isaac stayed when Adria told them the news. They thought it best to spectate on the conversation she would have and keep the kid's company whilst an argument happened - an argument was bound to happen and the three of them knew it.
Sirius loved Mila with all of his heart. He idolised the baby girl with everything, Jude too, but the thought of asking him to give her up...Adria knew exactly how he'd react.
They were similar in ways - shout first and think later.
It wasn't the best way to deal with things but she couldn't be mad at him for it because she was the exact same.
She had been going over what she would do first. Kiss him, obviously, she wanted as much time close to him as possible. She wanted their reunion to be happy and when that was out of the way...then she'd tell him.
"What do you think will happen?" asked Blair, "do you think he'll be on board."
"We all know he won't be," said Isaac, eyes filled with worry and Mila sleeping in his arms.
And then before any of them could respond to his words - a crack filled the living room and a tired Sirius appeared before them.
Adria held back her gasp at the sight of him...at the scars all over him and the bruises that littered his bare arms and face. He was silent and tired and cold, and she stumbled forward with her arms around him in an instant.
She couldn't tell him now.
He was drained and tired and cold and he practically fell into her when she grabbed hold of him.
Silence.
"Sirius," she whispered, kissing every inch of his face and holding him close to her. His scarred hands clasped around her, cold on her skin and under her shirt to feel warmth after being out in the cold for so long.
He was glad to be home...tired beyond belief but glad.
"You need to sleep." Worry laced in her tone and the look she gave to Blair and Isaac was a clear indication that she couldn't tell him now. She was sure there was no way he would even remember having such a conversation after a night of full rest, "I'll make some tea."
"No." It was the first thing he said, and it came out more like a strained groan. She had tried to pull away from him but he just gripped tighter, his head buried in the crook of her neck and a sense of warmth travelling through him.
He just needed to hold her. To be held up by her.
He didn't want tea or want food or even want to sit down because he'd rather stand there held by her than move without her presence near him.
"Please..." his voice was a broken whisper and she was sure her heart was on its way to physically breaking. He was in an evident amount of pain, pain she didn't even want to think of.
