Chapter 11
"I didn't even know McGonagall had a sister," James spoke as he listened to Adria who was pouring tea into the many mugs in front of her. James was leaning against the counter in the kitchen, given the instructions to make sure Adria didn't do anything stupid whilst she made tea from Sirius who was currently in the middle of a very heated argument about who loved Adria more, him or Milo.
When Adria protested that she was fine and she didn't need to be looked after when she was making tea, Sirius merely made sure to remind her about the time she climbed on top of the counter in order to reach the tea bags on the top shelf...and then she had to shout on Sirius for five minutes until he heard her from their garage and came to her aid to help her down.
"Me neither!" Adria exclaimed, turning to face him, "and it was all so sudden, it happened at work and I was just icing these cupcakes that needed to get put on display and then May just pops in like oh hey someone's here to see you that we're both bloody close to. I had no idea who it would be but McGonagall was the last person I'd think of!"
"She is right though," James trailed off after a few moments where Adria had turned back to pouring - too much - sugar into each mug and he watched his best friend who he loved dearly, "the wizarding world is crazy right now, Ads, and you know it as well as I do. We're at war and we are fighting and it's hard, and what's harder is Lily being as fearless as ever and jumping into battle mode at any given moment. Seeing the girl that you love with cuts all over her face isn't something you can just get over, it's hard, and it'll not just be hard for you if Sirius fights, but Jude too. How do you think we will feel if Sirius comes home one day torn to pieces with bruises and cuts?"
"Terrible," Adria whispered, closing her eyes as a shaky breath left her lips. She turned to the boy who was staring at her with tears in her eyes, the spoon once in her hand now sitting on the counter whilst James' shoulders slumped.
"Oh Addy," he whispered, pushing himself forward quickly to throw his arms around her, hugging her tightly whilst kissing her head, "I know it's stressful for you right now, bloody hell obviously it is, but it'll be fine soon, y'know? Everything will get better and be normal at some point and it'll great and fun and we can do tons of stuff like go to the beach and carnivals and holidays!"
"I'm terrified, James," she whispered, clutching onto the t-shirt he wore whilst he nodded his head, "the world is crazy. My parents are dead they're fucking dead and they're never going to come back and I'll never see them again, I'm never going to see them again and I have to take care of Jude, my little baby who doesn't even know, who thinks his dad is coming back one day! Do you know how scared I am for this baby, James? I'm terrified, I'm so terrified because merlin, I'm still a baby! I can barely look after Jude without bursting into tears whenever he cries, how in the world am I going to look after the one inside me?
How am I even going to get the one inside of me...out, that will be so painful, that'll be bloody terrible and what if something goes wrong or what if she...or he is hurt or-"
"Adria, calm down," James laughed softly, playing with the ends of her hair whilst her head rested on his shoulder, "I know you're scared and I know you can't help that fear but you are going to be the best bloody mum, do you know that? and this baby is going to be so bloody loved, and I know you know that. Not only will it have the best mum...and an alright dad-"
"Hey!" Adria cut him off, seeing the grin widen on his lips when she defended her boyfriend.
"But it will have a ton of uncles and aunties that love it more than life," James finished, kissing her forehead whilst she smiled.
"Y'know you're actually pretty good at the whole advice thing, James." She grinned, leaning up to ruffle his hair whilst he moved away from her, rolling his eyes and grabbing two mugs of the tea she had for their friends.
