"I've told countless news outlets that we're not dating, but none of them believe me!" Moon groaned, dramatically flopping into the sand.
Hau hugged his knees to his chest and stared at the ocean, silver moonlight bouncing off its waves.
"Maybe we need to be more aggressive about it." Hau suggested.
Moon threw her hands up to the sky, "And what'll that do? I'm sure they'll only be more sure of us dating!"
Hau shrugged, "Maybe we start dating people?"
"Like who? Lillie and Gladion?" Moon asked bitterly.
The grasshead sighed, "Maybe I couldn't get Lillie...but you could get Gladion."
Moon sat up and dug her toes into the sand, "Oh please. I've been trying to get Gladion for years! Nothing."
Hau made a sound between a sigh and a laugh, "Guess we're both outta luck then."
"Guess so."
The pair sat in silence for a long time- which was unusual for them.
Moon tugged on Hau's robe- the one he'd gotten from his Grandfather.
"Let me in. I'm cold." The champion demanded.
Complying without a second thought, Hau draped his arm around Moon's shoulders, bringing her closer and letting half of the robe hang around her. Tiredly, Moon leaned against Hau, shutting her eyes.
Hau chuckled, "Maybe this is why everyone thinks we're dating?"
Moon shrugged, "Don't care. I'm cold."
After another long silence, Hau spoke, "Do ya think Lillie will ever be into me?"
"Hard to say," Moon admitted, opening her eyes, "When she and I first met, I used to catch her staring at Kukui all the time. But that doesn't mean anything."
Hau said nothing.
"You still have a better chance with her than I do with Gladion."
Hau scoffed, "Yeah right!"
"It's totally true!"
"It totally isn't!"
"Sure he's kissed me before, but nothing's ever happened! He avoids talking about it! It's like he's embarrassed by me..."
Hau ruffled Moon's hair, "Don't see why. You're pretty great."
Moon chuckled as she fixed her hair, "Yeah well you're pretty great too. Guys like you are a rare breed."
Hau smirked, "Well yeah, duh."
The pair's laughter rose into the night sky. Even after it died down, Moon kept giggling, getting Hau to release a giggle. Finally, they grew silent once more, it becoming less awkward.
"Think we should try?" Hau asked.
Moon gave her friend a confused look, "Try what?"
Hau blushed, "N-Nothing. Forget it."
Scanning through the conversation, Moon came to a conclusion, "Dating or kissing?" She asked.
"I said forget it."
"Cause I'm down."
"What?"
"Is that crazy?"
"Yes!" Hau exclaimed.
"You're right." Moon agreed.
"No." Hau protested.
"No?"
"Yes."
Moon rubbed her temples, "You're confusing meeee."
Hau sighed, "I mean...This is stupid!"
"Agreed."
"We should kiss."
"Okay."
"Stop it! We are not doing this!"
Moon shrugged, "Makes no difference to me."
Silence hung in the air.
"Close your eyes." Hau commanded.
"Romantic."
"I can't do it."
Sick of the "will they" "won't they" game her friend was playing, Moon grabbed Hau's face and pulled him into a kiss.
When they pulled away, Moon touched her lips and narrowed her eyes at Hau, "You taste like malasada."
Hau smiled sheepishly, "Yeah..." he chuckled.
"So?" Moon asked, "How was it?" She wondered.
"Awkward."
"Yeah." Moon agreed.
"Let's never talk about this again."
"Yup."
