"Silver please don't go!" Lyra cried, clutching her hands to her aching heart, "I love you!"

Silver tensed, but he kept his back to her, "Then you really are stupid."

"What?"

Silver whipped around to face the normally bubbly brunette, "You're stupid for loving me!" He growled.

"Silver," Lyra sobbed, "You're perfect for me..."

"You deserve better..."

"But you're everything I want!"

Silence hung in the air.

Finally, Silver whispered, "I can't be."

"Why not?" Lyra asked, "Why can't you be?"

"Because I'm a fucking joke! No one gives a shit about me and that will never change."

"I give a shit!" Lyra argued, "I just told you I loved you and you have the nerve to say that no one gives a shit about you?!"

"Fuck off." Silver huffed, turning his back to Lyra once again.

Anger boiled in Lyra's veins, "Why are you so mean all the time?!"

"Because the best way to not get your heart broken is to pretend like you don't have one..." Silver muttered.

Lyra reached out and lightly touched Silver's shoulder. When he didn't recoil she fully placed her hand on his shoulder.

"Silver I don't want to break your heart." Lyra promised.

"Why should I believe that?" Silver asked quietly, "Everyone I've ever loved abandoned me. What makes you any different?"

Lyra pushed Silver gently so he faced her, "Because I love you back."
