I sighed and stepped out of the car. Elise was standing there, staring at a house, smoking. "Please don't tell me that's weed. Please tell me you don't smoke weed." Elise smiled and looked at me.
"Well I do, but if you don't want me to, then I won't." She dropped it on the ground and stepped on it. I smiled at the sweet gesture.
"Elise, you are not nobody. You are somebody to me. I like you, and I don't want you to think you're nobody." Elise looked at me like I was a child. I was a little offended, but I hid it.
"You don't understand. I don't have a past. I only have a present. There is nothing. I don't know whether I blocked it out, or whether I just don't remember, but I don't have a past." I was left even more confused than I was before. How could someone not have a past? I turned away from her for a second; to catch my breath. I jumped when I heard glass shattering.
"Elise!" I shrieked when I turned around. She was picking me up another rock; ready to throw it.
"Elise, stop it!" What was she doing?
"This house. I hate this house. I hate it!" She screamed as she threw another rock. It hit another window, and I watched it shatter to pieces. "Elise, why? No, you can't do this, Elise, come on let's just get in the car." I pulled at her arm, but she wouldn't budge.
"I lied. I remember my entire childhood. This is where I grew up. I hate it." I stood there, motionless. We'd been together for a day, and she was already lying to me. Why was she acting so odd?
"I-I'm sorry." I didn't know what to say. "I need to go home." How could her mood change so quickly? I wanted to go home. "I know, but we can't go back to the airport. We need a different one. Where do you live?" I hesitated to answer, because I had already told her. Did she listen to me at all? "New York." She smiled. "Me too! This is perfect. Come on, let's go find an airport." She gleefully grabbed my hand and pulled me to the car.
I didn't know what to do, but getting in that car was a mistake. A mistake I would pay for for the rest of my life.
