Chapter VI: Break Of Spring

Chapter 6: Break of Spring

A couple of carriages arrived at the castle gates, making the crowd erupt in chatters and whispers that meant they were clearly anticipating the nobles who entered the kingdom of Mewni. The carriage had an elaborate lattice of flowers on a giant flower bud. People peeked on the small circular window revealing the Florian family members only to be met by an intimidating stare from one of the Florian guards whose shields were decorated with pictures of vines and flowers.

“Behave yourselves, especially you, Thaniel.” A bearded man commanded to one of his sons, but the son only looked at him with empty eyes.

The guards opened the door for the the nobles and the crowd held their breaths, thrilled by the noble Florian family.

The first one to come down was a tall man with a humble aura around him. His hair, a honey with a modicum of carrot color, went up in spikes which resembled that of a chrysanthemum flower, his juniper eyes were a tad sleepy and his nose looked a bit like a bird’s beak.

Next, a younger male with amber eyes and white hair which looked like a primrose, went down. Albeit much smaller than the other man, he had a domineering aura around him which was a bit unsettling.  

A child was the next to come down and the whole crowd cooed at him. His hair was in the shade of flamingo and he had two huge aegean orbs for eyes and a small red lily grew atop his head. His huge smiles captured the hearts of the crowd.

Lastly, a very tall man went down and his presence sent waves of electricity to the people. His beard stopped beneath his chin and his hair was in the shade of currant, his eyes neon green . A striking scar down his eye gave his chiseled features much more character and his nose was turned down like a bird’s beak just like the second man. His gloved hands were crossed behind his back.
There was no sign of the queen anywhere.

The girls swooned over the nobles but the guards seized those who tried to interfere as they walked on a red carpet as they entered the palace. None of them smiled, save for the child who waved at everyone around him.

Upon entering the palace, florets hung like banners around the castle. Ubiquitous floral arrangements adorned each post. The servants scurried to add finishing touches to the location. Moon and River were quietly sitting on their thrones but there was an empty seat to the right. Manfred then blew his horn as welcome before saying “The Florian family has arrived!” He cleared his throat and opened a piece of parchment.

“The Florian family, a family of four from the Blumendia Kingdom, are the keepers of flowers and the main producers of medicine and potions to their neighboring kingdoms.” He announced.

The bearded man stepped up and spoke in a low hoarse voice like that of a lion. “It’s been a long time, Queen Moon but you didn’t have to do all this. I only informed you this morning, but you already had all of this done. It must have been worrisome.” He said politely.

“You made us buy 500 flowers in the span of 5 hour--” Before River could finish, Moon interrupted him.
“Oh, no worries King Bellidonald.” Moon gave off a small smile, the bags in her eyes evident.

“Say, let my children introduce themselves. Since 12 years have passed, you might not recognize them.” He pointed to the man with the chrysanthemum hair. “I’m Christocrocus,” voice smooth like honey, he introduced himself and curtsied. “Keeper of the summer flowers.” A thin vine crawled from the palm of his hand which then sprouted a small marigold flower.
