My trip to the mall, which I ended up getting bags of clothes, ended when a speaker said the mall was closing now. I made a face as I realized I didn't have any car to dump the bags. I didn't know why I bought these. They were only going to become a nuisance and I wasn't planning on staying here for long.
I was half tempted to go into an alleyway and just run to the house, but the bags would be noisy and annoying.
Sighing, I walked down the street and not even a minute later, I heard a car pull up next to me. I turned towards it, already knowing it was Lucas from the smell of wolf on his car.
"you stalking me now?" I asked as he got out and stood in front of me.
"er, no? I'm looking out for a girl when it's dark out?" he asked instead of saying.
"I'm fine."
"you know its not safe for a girl to walk around at night, by herself makes it worse," he said, watching me carefully.
I let out a huff of breath. "I know self defense," I reasoned with him.
"I don't care. A guy could still get you."
I snorted.
"this is a serious matter."
I looked him in the eyes and saw that he thought I was weak.
"you don't know who I am, do you?" I asked, tilting my head to the side.
"no. I only met you a couple of hours ago."
And my victims knew me for ages yet when they saw me they usually died instantly.
"fine, since I'm apparently going to get attacked by some guy, how am I meant to get home?" I asked, already knowing what he was going to offer.
"did you want me to give you a lift?" he asked.
"since a total stranger is willing to give me a lift, I will accept but break their hand if they touch me," I warned, dumping my bags in the backseat.
He nodded and opened the passenger door for me, closing it when I was in. He got into the drivers seat while I gave him my address.
There was silence as he drove and, soon enough, he parked outside my house.
"you live here?" he asked.
I shrugged. "I guess. I moved in today."
"this is the oldest house in town. You would have to mega rich to live here."
"yeah, well, the house is sort of," I paused looking for the right word,"on loan, I guess."
"ah."
I got out quickly and got the bags out of the car. Lucas put his window down.
"thanks for the lift," I said.
"no problem. If a creep got to you while you were walking around, I would have to go after them," he said, his voice getting quiet as he said the last part.
"and I would have to get you," I whispered.
I had only seen him twice, yet thinking of his pack without their Alpha because he tried to help me saddened me.
"huh?" he asked, confused.
I looked up at him, realizing I was looking at my feet.
"nothing. You obviously don't know who I am, so find out and you'll understand."
I took his silence as my cue to step through the security gate, close it behind me and go straight to the house. I dumped the bags in my room then went straight to unpacking them and putting the clothes. Then I suddenly got angry with myself. Why was I telling this wolf my plans for being here?
