Chapter 21 || Eavesdropping Is Not My Style
"What are you doing here?" I asked him as I opened the door wider. I was expecting to feel a little bit of pain or even hints of anguish, but all I felt was nothing.
I was truly over him.
I looked over at him to see him looking slightly more dishevelled compared to his normal clean look. He was spotting a scruff on his chin and when he looked up, I could see that his eyes were red.
"I.. came to see you." he slurred.
I sighed, realising that he was drunk. Trust him to only have the guts to see me when he had been drinking. "Look," I started.
"Who is that?" Colton came from behind me and put himself in front of me, almost as if he was in a protective stance.
This may be one of the weirdest time to introduce them, but whatever. "Colton, Henry. Henry, Colton."
"This is your ex, isn't he?" Colton asked as he looked over to the swaying Henry. I nodded in confirmation. "Nice to meet you." Colton offered a hand to Henry.
Henry looked at it, then at Colton and back to me. "Your boyfriend? You get on pretty quick, huh?" he laughed.
I could tell that the laugh wasn't sincere and realised what he was trying to imply. "Look, if you came here to act like a douche and be the asshole I already know you are, then you can leave." I said to him as I began to close the door.
"Wait!" Henry managed to slur out.
I hesitated and opened the door to look at him again. I felt Colton's questioning gaze on me; he was probably wondering what I was doing but he didn't understand, I needed some sort of closure. Despite the fact that I believed that I was over Henry, I simply needed the closure just so that Henry and I (hopefully) would be on good terms again and there wouldn't be any bad blood between us again.
"Yes, Henry?"
"I'm sorry."
I looked at Henry in the eye and felt the sincerity behind his words. "I know."
And with those words, he left and I shut the door, closing the night and closing that chapter behind me. I looked over at Colton and gave him a smile to show that I was truly happy with the way things had worked out.
He smiled back at me and asked, "Wanna go to sleep now?"
I nodded at his idea. I was grateful that he didn't step in to interfere that little confrontation with Henry because I felt like I needed to do it myself.
We stopped in front of my bedroom. It was as though neither of us wanted to leave but we didn't know what to say to each other. I swallowed whatever dignity I had left and took the plunge. "Wanna sleep in my bed?"
I blushed when I realised how wrong that sounded and tried to correct my words. "I-I mean, I think you should be sick of the couch and all, right? Plus, I'm pretty sure that it has dust mites in it." I rambled. I could barely bring myself to look at Colton in the eye while asking him the question.
He stopped my rambling with a quick peck on the lips. I looked at him in amazement over what he had just did and subconsciously touched my lips that were still tingling from that kiss. "You talk too much, you know that?" he touched my bottom lip with his index finger. "Let's go to bed."
