"Dan!" Phil jumped slightly when he saw Dan. It was early morning, before class.
"What's with the energy? It's a Thursday." Dan sighed
"Tonight a comet is gonna be visible from earth!" He smiled.
"I know"
"Want to watch it together?" Phil was still smiling
"Since when were you an astrology nerd, anyway?"
"I always have been you dipsh- you dummy." Phil tried to play off the fact he almost swore.
"Why didn't you just say dipshit?" Dan almost laughed, it matched Phil's almost swear, which matched Dan's almost three from two days ago.
"I don't swear."
"Bullshit." Dan laughed. "You're a fuckboy, of course, you swear."
"Who told you I'm an eff-boy?" Phil looked genuinely confused.
"PJ. He said you slept around loads, even though you're dating someone"
"O-oh." Phil blushed. He opened his mouth to say something but stopped himself.
Dan read Phil's eyes.

Confusion, Guilt, Worry, Fear but also Love.

"What do you mean 'oh'?"
"Nothing." Phil looked at his watch. It was 5 minutes until class started. "I have to meet my tutor- bye Dan" Phil smiled, before walking away.

Who was he feeling love for? Nobody else was around them. He must've been reminded about his girlfriend. Dan thought as he plugged his headphones in, to distract himself for just a few minutes before class.

'Are we gonna watch the comet together or no?' Phil texted Dan
'Sure' Dan replied, his mum wouldn't mind if he came home late. She was probably sleeping with some rich businessman right now, so she could go home and flaunt how she makes triple dad's salary from having 'actually good' sex with middle-aged married men. She wasn't even a prostitute technically. She's like- 36. Why men would pay money to have her of all people get them off still amazed him to this day.
'Cool cool, see you by the crayon tree?'
Dan laughed, he forgot about the crayon tree. An artist visited the school and melted a shit ton of crayons and painted it on one of their schools actual living trees. It was dubbed the 'crayon tree' even though most of the wax has either been pulled off or in other ways removed.
'Okay'

"You ready?" Phil smiled, opening the door to his room.
Dan hadn't been in Phil's room before, he had only ever been in PJ's.
"I-is his room the same?" Dan whispered.
Phil didn't respond.
"You- You didn't let them change it, did you?"
"It wasn't my room- I tried to stop my parents-"
Dan collapsed onto Phil's chest, sobbing. Phil walked them over to his bed, so Dan could sit down.
Dan nuzzled into Phil's neck. His face fit perfectly.
"I tried so hard to stop them" Phil mumbled, holding Dan slightly, stroking his back. "I really did"
"Wh-what did they d-do" He sobbed
"They bleach-cleaned it, they removed everything- I tried to keep what I could..." Phil trailed off, still stroking Dan's back. Phil was crying, too.
"Th-thank you, for t-trying" Dan whispered.
"We should get the balcony ready, so we can lie comfortably," Phil whispered in return.
Dan pulled himself up, he felt colder the moment he left his place.
"O-Okay" Dan smiled weakly, but genuinely, as Phil stood next to him, his hand holding Dan's for a couple seconds and giving a reassuring squeeze.

"I like that- that smile" Phil smiled, once his hand left Dans.
"It was too brief- Phil" Dan sighed. "They're always too brief" The happy had already drained away. As soon as it was there, it left him.
"It was beautiful, happy is beautiful. We'll make it permanent, I promise, Dan" Dan didn't dare read Phil's emotions, he was too afraid.

"It should be coming past any minute now-" Phil smiled, Dan was lying on Phil slightly, his head had found the spot on Phil's neck where he fit, except he was looking up.
"Look!" Phil pointed, as the comet flew through the sky. "Make a wish, Dan" Dan could hear his smile.

I wish Phil Lester loved me back- Dan wished. He didn't know why, but he automatically did.
Which didn't make sense because he didn't love Phil Lester.

"Do you think humans serve a purpose on this earth?" Dan mumbled. He usually didn't let anyone, even PJ, hear his intrusive thoughts.
"Honestly, not really" Phil replied, running his hands through Dan's curls. "I think humans were a beautiful mistake"
"You're a- You're quoting Bob Ross, kinda" Dan sighed. He fucked up his words again.
"I guess so, I love Bob Ross. He's a very happy person. I try to be like Bob Ross." Phil giggled slightly.

"What do you think is out there?" Dan waved his arm around, motioning to the galaxies and stars above them.
"Everything. Nothing. The infinite in-between land"
"Woah" Dan whispered.
"This isn't the first time I have pondered the universe on my balcony, Dan" Phil giggled at Dan's response. "It's just the first time I've discussed it"
"You didn't seem like the sort of person who'd question life itself." Dan snuggled into Phil a little more as a gust of wind blew.
"I don't question life, it's beautiful. I just, ponder life" Phil strained the word ponder.
"Life can be beautiful" Dan nodded to himself.

"Hey, Dan" Phil whispered, Dan was half awake.
"Mm?"
"Your genuine smile is very pretty." He smiled
"I doubt that" Dan blushed
"It's brighter than every star we can see right now, regardless if they're dead or alive. They're all bright"
"I'm a lot like a star" Dan whispered. "I look bright, but I'm already dead" He whispered the last part so quietly that Phil probably couldn't even hear it.
Which was good.
"You are" Phil replied. "You're a star"

Dan nuzzled his face into Phil's neck.
"You like it there" Phil giggled softly
"It's safe" Dan sleepily replied.
"You should probably sleep" Phil stroked Dan's back
"Goodnight, Phil"
"Goodnight Dan."
